WLB 2015/16 Preview | League Two | Specials

WE asked Football League fanatic Matt Vale (@MattDVale) to talk us through the best specials on offer in League Two. You won’t be disappointed.

English League Two | Specials

Lovably unfashionable Morecambe, with its washed away pier, fading memories of hosting the Miss Great Britain contest and the now deceased Eric Morecambe has only one chink of light in an otherwise (Irish) sea of gloom. Step forward, Jim Bentley.

Since promotion in 2006/07, Morecambe have been relatively solid performers but last season offered us a glimpse that they might just be ready to start pushing on. Bentley has put together a tight group of players and the 6/1 on offer for them to be relegated seems to be unjust considering they finished 11th last season – above well fancied Oxford and Northampton – and beat six of the top nine away from home.

The loss of 11-goal Jack Redshaw is a blow but the acquisitions of Peter Murphy, Aaron Wildig and Lee Molyneux look astute, as does the permanent signing of Tom Barkhuizen on a two-year deal following his loan spell with the Shrimps last season. The boys from the Globe Arena are certainly worth investing on the handicap at a massive +26 (18/1 Bet365) and worth checking out at 6/1 in the Top Northern Club market too.

A lot of people look for teams slightly around the middle ground when looking at handicaps but if you've doubts about backing such outsiders; the League Two handicap is usually one for exactly that. Wycombe won it from +24 last season, Rochdale +17 (13/14), Burton +30 (12/13), Cheltenham +34 (11/12), Accrington +32 (10/11) and Aldershot +38 (09/10). Most of whom started the season as favourites for relegation.

Next best in League Two would be AFC Wimbledon. They’ve got a gaffer who knows the club inside out and he’s brought in some good quality signings at League Two level. They are currently a centre-back away from challenging the top-7 (7/2) but should comfortably improve enough to finish in the top-half, which is a 5/4 shot.

And if you’re wondering who I fancy for promotion from League Two, look no further than Luton Town.
