WEST BROM welcome Huddersfield to The Hawthorns on Friday night and Sam Ingram (@SamIngram_) is on-hand to share his best bet.

Huddersfield Town’s trajectory has them on course to sneak into an automatic promotion spot this season. A string of results this calendar year has The Terriers on a path to England’s top tier, with accompanied performances suggesting the Yorkshiremen have every right to be fighting it out at the summit.

Sixteen games unbeaten for Carlos Corberán's Huddersfield is the statistic that props up Friday night’s fixture. West Brom, on the other hand, have managed just two wins in 2022. Seven losses since the turn of the year hint that Steve Bruce has a job on his hands.

It’s a bitter pill to swallow for Baggies fans who would have expected a much-loftier league position. Steve Bruce celebrated his first win on the weekend against Hull, but the proposition Huddersfield pose should prove contrastingly difficult.

The bookie’s take on the Championship’s pre-weekend fixture is interesting, to say the least. Skybet’s 4/1 for a Huddersfield win is the leading price, whilst 5/2for Huddersfield Draw No Bet with the same bookmaker also appeals. Looking at the two veins of form from both clubs, one would assume the price would be a touch shorter in this instance.

Huddersfield’s away form ranks them fourth this season (W7-D6-L5), whilst West Brom sits in 12th for games played at The Hawthorns (W8-D6-L2). It’s worth noting that five of the visitors' seven away wins have come during their imposing three-month run.

If anything gives West Brom a leg up in Friday's head-to-head, it lies in either side's fixture schedule. Since the beginning of February, Huddersfield have overseen ten fixtures. West Brom? Just six.

At this stage of the season, after so many games in a gruelling Championship campaign to this point, said periods of additional rest could make all the difference.

It's hard to envisage Huddersfield's impressive spell ending at the hands of this West Brom outfit. Those at the John Smith's Stadium in November witnessed a 1-0 Huddersfield win in the reverse fixture – let's hope a repeat is on the cards.

Landing the luckiest 1096/1 Champions League four-fold in 2014 had me well and truly hooked in terms of football betting, thanks to a 91st minute Islam Slimani goal. Since that 4-2 Sporting Lisbon win, as data reared its head in football and became widely accessible to the average punter, a near-on obsession for stats and the underlying metrics somehow elevated a punt on the footy into more than just a hobby. Now betting in a full-time capacity, the goal is to fund following England home and away, and have enough in the kitty for a takeaway on a Saturday!
