Tottenham threw away their opportunity of getting their hands on some silverware this season when they were eliminated from the FA Cup at the hands of Manchester United in the semi-final.

Now, the question for Spurs is whether they can maintain the modicum of success by acquiring the 4th place trophy that happily resided in north London for so many years under Arsene Wenger’s reign.

Return to victory?

You actually have to head back to the 7th of April to find the last time Tottenham tasted victory. With the aforementioned FA Cup exit combined with a defeat at the hands of the champions and a disappointing draw with Brigthon. However, with Watford visiting Wembley there’s a fantastic opportunity to restore order.

November 2016 was the last time Tottenham went four matches without victory. This Spurs side have dashed the moniker of underachievers and anything else but a win here would be classed as a disappointment. With a 12-match unbeaten run against the Hornets stretching back to May 1985 it looks positive.

It’s not just the Tottenham-focused stats that play into the favour for the hosts in this match, looking at some of the statistical trends for Watford it’s easy to draw the same conclusion; The Hornets have failed to score in four of their last six league matches and they are also winless in eight away league matches played on a Monday night – although, whilst this stat is a nice one, it’s not one I’d factor in my consideration when betting on a match.

Watford look safe for another season in the Premier League on 38 points, although it could have been a much different story is it hadn’t been for the fantastic start to the season under Silva. Their form of late has been poor, they’ve not got the most out of Troy Deeney and Javi Gracia could be heading out the door like many other managers who have opted for the poison chalice.

The betting

With all of the above, it’s no real surprise to see Spurs trading at such a short price. In turn, it’s particularly difficult to find any real value. Whilst Watford can be found at a backable price on the +2 handicap, I wouldn’t be confident putting my money there.

The one area which I like the look of and can be found at a price I’d consider putting my money on is the win to nil market. I don’t usually delve here, but I fail to see Watford heading to Wembley and scoring a goal given their record away from home so that’s going to be my pick.
