The second match of this week’s Friday night double-header in the Premier League sees Newcastle made the long trip down England to Southampton. The Toon face a Saints side who have W4-D1-L0 from their last five and have put in some recent performances of late.

Many didn’t quite know what to expect from Southampton this season after a shocking first three months last term followed by a brilliant rest of the season. Saints started with two losses and it was the way they were beaten that had fans worried. The 5-reverse loss to Spurs was a real wake up for Ralph Hasenhuttl’s team and they’ve been in brilliant form since.

This could be a historical moment for Southampton, if they come away with a win here as it would see them finish a day top of the Premier League for the first time in their history.  However, they have been hit with a big blow.

Danny Ings is expected to be out for up to six weeks with a knee injury he picked up last week in the 4-3 win against Aston Villa. He will be a big miss for the Saints, and it could see one of Nathan Redmond or Theo Walcott in a striker role. Ryan Bertrand is also a doubt which could see Kyle Walker-Peters move to left-back and Yann Valery recalled.

Newcastle picked up a surprise 2-1 win last week versus Everton with Callum Wilson netting twice, making that six goals in seven matches for him this term. Steve Bruce has lined his team up in a 5-3-2 formation in recent weeks with Alain Saint-Maximin playing in a front two with Wilson. ASM likely operating centrally gives us our first angle with Oriol Romeu.

Romeu has a reputation for a booking and is usually priced quite low by bookies to get a card and understandably so. He’s been priced at 7/2 by bet365 which I see as a really appealing price. He has already been carded twice this season and has 55 career yellows in 196 starts. 7/2 is a price too high for a player like Romeu.

Saint-Maximin is also the third-most fouled player this season, being fouled 3.3 times per-game.  This makes the 7/2 price even better.

The second and final bet I like is again with Romeu but this time in the tackles market.  Romeu has made 3+ tackles in six of seven games this season with the only game he failed to manage it being in the game where he got taken off after 55 mins. Every game that he has played more than 55 mins he has managed 4,3,5,5,3,4 tackles.

Romeu to make 3+ tackles is available at 17/20 with Ladbrokes which represents real value considering he is the second highest tackler in the league this season.
