National League: On-loan Cards star overpriced to strike

NON-LEAGUE expert Paul Maddison (@LouthBigDog) shares his best bets from Saturday's action in the National League.

Bromley v Chesterfield | Saturday 7th September 2019, 15:00

Bromley kept their unbeaten start to the season going with a stoppage-time equaliser against Dagenham & Redbridge on Wednesday night. The draw was probably the right result in the end with the Daggers having the better of the first half and Bromley coming back well in the second.

When you level the game in the 94th minute it feels like a winner and that will give the Ravens plenty of confidence coming into this game against a Chesterfield side that's really struggling at the moment.

The Spireites are yet to win in their opening nine games, although they have drawn five of those. The main problem for John Sheridan's men has been in defence; the visitors have conceded twice or more in seven of their nine ties and have had a relatively kind looking start to the campaign fixture-wise.

Chesterfield are still been finding the net at the other end regularly though, having failed to score in just once. We can get 3/1 with BetVictor on a Bromley win and Both Teams To Score and that looks decent value here.

Chorley v Stockport | Saturday 7th September 2019, 15:00

I backed Harrogate to score Over 1.5 Goals against Chorley on Tuesday and I'm sticking with the same bet for Stockport as they take on a Chorley side that has looked terrible defensively in recent weeks.

The Magpies sit bottom of the league and have conceded more goals than any other side despite starting the season with back-to-back clean sheets. Since then Chorley’s backline has been breached 22 times, at an average of over three goals per-game.

After a slow start to the season Stockport have started to find some form. The Hatters have won five of their last six and have scored twice or more all five of those victories.

I can't see them struggling to score twice against this Chorley defence and Bet365 are evens on Over 1.5 Stockport Goals.

Hartlepool v Woking | Saturday 7th September 2019, 19:45 | BT Sport

The live game this Saturday comes from Victoria Park in a game both sides will fancy their chances of winning. Hartlepool and Woking are both in good form so hopefully it will be a decent game of football.

The Monkey Hangers have won their last three on the bounce but I don't think they will find it easy against a Woking side that have won six of their last seven.

I can't take full credit for this bet, as I saw the price for a First Goalscorer flagged up on Twitter for Woking's game against Torquay on Tuesday night. The player in question is Southampton loanee Tyreke Johnson, who has started on the left side of an attacking three for Woking in their last six fixtures.

Dave Tarpey and Jake Hyde are likely to be on the end of most of the chances that the Cards create but the price for Johnson to score first is 28/1 with Bet365 and that is wrong. He's generally 16/1 elsewhere and for someone playing as an attacking winger that price still looks big to me.

Johnson has already netted once this season against Barrow, and I'll be backing him to score Anytime as well at 11/1 also with Bet365.

Best Bets

Bromley v Chesterfield – Bromley to win and Both Teams To Score (3/1 BetVictor)

Chorley v Stockport – Stockport to score Over 1.5 Goals (1/1 Bet365)

Hartlepool v Woking – Tyreke Johnson to score first (28/1 Bet365)

Hartlepool v Woking – Tyreke Johnson to score at anytime (11/1 Bet365)

About Author

I first got the taste for betting when I was quite young, every year I would pick a horse for the Grand National and my Dad would go to the bookies and put my £1 each way bet on. As soon as I could get away with it I was in the bookies every Saturday afternoon searching the football coupons and putting on stupidly big accas. Now enjoy betting mainly singles or small multiples, usually sticking to the English leagues. I don't favour any particular market, but rarely watch a game without having small first scorer bet for a bit of fun. I've got 3 boys which take up most of my time, but luckily they enjoy going to watch football and days at the races. I'm a life long Grimsby Town fan, one of a few that has seen some ups as well as all the downs.
