Manchester United v Chelsea: Home advantage makes United best bet

THINGS have taken a turn for the worse for Manchester United in recent weeks but Tom Love (@TomLove_18) thinks they could be worth getting onside with when Chelsea visit on Sunday.

The battle for 4th spot is still up for grabs and this match up will be key in deciding who it goes to.

Chelsea currently occupy the final champions league place but if they lose this one then United will go level on points with them. Therefore, it will be interesting to see if the visitors would set up to take a point here.

Maurizio Sarri saw his side slip up on Monday night at home to Burnley, another disappointing result. Even when the Blues have won games they’ve not been majorly convincing, especially on the road. They’ve lost 5 of their last 7 on the road, failing to score in those 5 and conceding 16. It’s hard to find faith in them.

I’d naturally be inclined to get on United given Chelsea’s poor away record but they just look a bit of a mess really. They ran around and put a bit of pressure on Man City in the derby recently but it was an uncharacteristic start from City and United couldn’t make them pay. After that it was a stroll and the gulf in quality was eye opening.

Having said that, we cannot disregard the fact the Red Devils went unbeaten in 14 at Old Trafford prior to that derby defeat. What’s more, they have a great record at home against Chelsea being undefeated in 9 of their last 10 against the South Londoners.

It’s basically each of two your choice in the 1X2 market with both sides around 13/8 and I’d be more inclined to get with United considering the overall respective home/away records. They have to win really to keep their top 4 hopes alive, they can’t afford to lose and slide 6 points away from their rivals.

With that in mind, and the possibility that Chelsea wouldn’t be too dissatisfied with a point I’ll take the near even-money quote of 39/40 on United off a scratch 0 start on the asian handicap line.

This bet effectively works the same as the draw no bet market with our stakes being returned if the match ends all square but a full stakes win should the hosts take all three points. The prices on offer allow us to take out a bit of insurance and still harbour a competitive price.

I was first interested in the betting industry by doing the odd coupon at 18 - when I’d see a team at odds I didn’t expect it sparked my curiosity as to why that was. I’d go and research everything around that club: form, team news, manager quotes, and try give my own price in an aim to out-do the bookies. I personally enjoy punting on the Football League and European competitions. I like to diversify what markets I bet on so sometimes it’s outrights, goals, player cards etc. The Football League angle comes from being an avid Bradford City fan which has its ups (reaching a League Cup final and beating Chelsea in the FA Cup) and its downs (The entirety of 2018). Hobbies of mine include playing football, cross country running, travelling and playing Football Manager.
