Chelsea have certainly entertained in domestic football this term, scoring 14 and conceding 13 in their seven league games to date.

The London club did keep their first clean sheet of the season against Brighton at the weekend but their opponents still managed eight shots in the second half in a game that Chelsea’s two goals did not do their attacking opportunities justice. Frank Lampard’s side managed 24 shots in their 2-0 victory, with their Expected Goals (xG) tally totalling more than four.

The Stamford Bridge side lost their opening Champions League fixture 1-0 at home to Valencia but were unfortunate in that encounter. Ross Barkley missed penalty was a one of a number of big chances that the home side missed and it is essential that Chelsea get something in northern France on Wednesday night.

Their opponents, Lille, lost 3-0 to Ajax in their first game in this group but their home record in recent times should give them plenty of confidence going in to this game. To date this season they have scored nine goals on their way to four consecutive home victories in Ligue 1, having beaten Paris St Germain 5-1 at the tail end of last term.

All things considered, 13/5 on a home victory looks quite appealing but Chelsea’s impressive attacking form this season makes me believe that the goals angle is once again the way to go.

Over 2.5 Goals is 10/11 with Betfred and has been victorious in six of Chelsea’s 10 competitive matches under Lampard’s guidance. With N’Golo Kante again likely to be absent, I see little obvious protection for Chelsea’s porous back four. Goals look likely and I am tempted by Over 3.5 Goals as well but will keep it simple with this angle.
