Everton v Burnley: Take the Toffees on Friday night

EVERTON host Burnley for Friday night football this week. We asked Tom Love (@TomLove_18) to source the best bets.

Everton v Burnley | Friday 3rd May 2019, 20:00 | Sky Sports

It’s been hard to get a grip on Everton this season. Have they underachieved? Have they in fact overachieved? Or have they simply hit par?

Marco Silva has divided the footballing public for a while now. However, at the current moment he’s got his side looking very solid indeed.

It’s at the back where they’ve excelled, the Toffees have kept their sheets clean in their last four fixtures at Goodison Park and centre half duo Michael Keane and Kurt Zouma have been strong, disciplined and organised since the turn of the year. They’ve also kept clean sheets in the last five that these two have been together in defence.

Everton still have their eyes on seventh spot and Europa League qualification. They sit four places behind Wolves but the Old Gold have Liverpool still to play so there is still a chance, if they do take three points here.

Burnley themselves have picked up since the turn of the year and Sean Dyche has settled back into the 4-4-2 that’s proved successful for them with Chris Wood and Ashley Barnes making a nuisance of themselves up front. They’ve actually proven quite free-scoring on the road, notching in five of their last six away games.

The Clarets are well known for their solid defence but that’s not being the case of late, conceding in 12 of their last 14. Therefore, if Zouma and Keane can keep the Burnley front two quiet, they should win this one.

The home side are going off around 8/13 and that looks a tad short but I’ll boost that to 10/11 (Coral) by chucking Under 4.5 Goals into the equation. Of Everton’s 14 wins this season, 13 have seen fewer than five goals.

Burnley and Dyche will still take pride in their discipline at the back but ultimately Everton should have the confidence to take the win, they also have greater option off the bench if it’s a tight opening hour or so.

I’m also happy to take a look in the player Shots On-Target market and back Everton full back Lucas Digne to have at least one on-target attempt at 12/5 which you can manufacture via the BuildYourBet feature on Coral.

Digne has arguably been one of the top left backs in the league this season. He has been very effective going forward, supplying great crosses to the strikers and showing great energy to go up and down. The Frenchman is on free kicks too now so he should get a few chances to have a pop.

This same bet is 13/8 elsewhere so the 12/5 looks good value to me. He’s scored four times this season which makes him the fourth top scorer for the Merseyside club, an impressive feat for a defender. He averages 0.90 shots on-target per-game so hopefully he manages to shoot on sight; he should get plenty of chances to do so as Burnley concede a lot of shots, only enjoying 36% of the shot ratio overall.

Best Bets

Everton v Burnley – Everton to win and Under 4.5 Goals (10/11 Coral)

Everton v Burnley – Lucas Digne to have 1+ shots on target (12/5 Coral)

I was first interested in the betting industry by doing the odd coupon at 18 - when I’d see a team at odds I didn’t expect it sparked my curiosity as to why that was. I’d go and research everything around that club: form, team news, manager quotes, and try give my own price in an aim to out-do the bookies. I personally enjoy punting on the Football League and European competitions. I like to diversify what markets I bet on so sometimes it’s outrights, goals, player cards etc. The Football League angle comes from being an avid Bradford City fan which has its ups (reaching a League Cup final and beating Chelsea in the FA Cup) and its downs (The entirety of 2018). Hobbies of mine include playing football, cross country running, travelling and playing Football Manager.
