Chelsea v Valencia: Goals may flow at the Bridge

THE CHAMPIONS LEAGUE is back on Tuesday night. Daniel McCulloch (@DMcCulloch1984) analyses the odds as Chelsea welcome Valencia to Stamford Bridge.

One thing that the market seems to be slow to pick up on is that Chelsea will be the league’s entertainers this term. In five league games this season they have scored 11 goals and conceded the same amount. A Both Teams To Score bet would have landed in four of their five matches as well as their Super Cup game against Liverpool.

Moreover, it doesn’t appear to be the case that there are issues that Frank Lampard needs to address as Chelsea boss. Instead, it is the output of the style of football his sides play. Including the play-off matches last season, 29 of his 49 matches (59%) as Derby manager saw both sides find the net.

This is the kind of information I like to see when taking the 13/15 on offer with Sportingbet on Chelsea and Valencia scoring in this encounter.

Their opponents Valencia have already made a managerial change this term, replacing Marcelino with Albert Celades last week. That suggests that they’ve had a horrendous start to La Liga, but they actually gained four points from their three league games to that point.

Celades’s first game in charge was not a happy one as his side conceded five to Barcelona. They did, however, manage two themselves and given that they’ve scored in three of their four games in La Liga this term, I see no reason why they won’t breach a defence as porous as Chelsea’s.

Los Ches played another English side who cannot defend – Arsenal – in the Europa league last term, losing 7-3 over the two legs, both of which saw BTTS land.

I expect an entertaining game at Stamford Bridge and with 7/10 the best price available with some bookmakers, I am delighted with Sportingbet’s 13/15.

Additionally, I will back Chelsea and Over 2.5 Goals. This is available at 19/10 with the same firm and has easily landed in both their Premier League victories this season. I would suggest 60% of your stake on the former and 40% on the latter. That way if only one wins you are still in profit.

Best Bets

Chelsea v Valencia – Both teams To Score (13/15 Sportingbet)

Chelsea v Valencia – Chelsea to win and Over 2.5 Goals (19/10 Sportingbet)

I bet on football, golf and the NFL mainly but two flies going up a wall could also capture my attention. I am a West Brom fan and also follow teams in other sports but I think it's fair to say that no side compare with The Baggies!
