Championship 2013-14 Ante-Post Stats
With the Championship season upon us, Mark O’Haire (@SportingbetMark) has crunched the numbers to come up with an array of thought-provoking stats on the new season.
Title
Eight of the last 11 Championship title winners have been priced up at double-figure quotes.
Leicester (8/1) last season were the biggest priced Championship favourites since 2000-01
Favourites & Price
Man City (2001-02) were the last favourites to win the Championship title, at 7/2.
Four of the last six Championship favourites were promoted – West Ham in 2011-12 (3rd, playoffs), WBA in 2009-10 (2nd), Birmingham in 2008-09 (2nd) and Birmingham again in 2006-07 (2nd).
In nine of the last 11 Championship seasons, a team at 20/1 or larger has won promotion.
Relegated Clubs
Only West Ham (2011-12) won promotion straight back after suffering relegation from the Premier League, in the past three seasons.
Only eight clubs have won promotion straight back after Premier League relegation in the past 11 seasons.
Twice in the past four seasons have all three relegated sides failed to reach the play-offs (2012-13 and 2010-11). But in six of the last eight seasons, at least one relegated side has made the play-offs.
Promoted Clubs
Southampton in 2011-12 (2nd) and Norwich in 2010-11 (2nd) both won successive promotions in the past three seasons – but they are the only two in the past 11 seasons to achieve that feat.
Only four promoted clubs have been relegated in their first Championship season in the past 11 seasons. And only one has been relegated in the past five seasons (Peterborough in 2009-10).
