CARD king Gavin Murphy (@GamePlanGavin) returned another winner on Monday night and now he’s attacking Tuesday’s Champions League action from Lisbon.
Benfica v Atletico Madrid | Tuesday 19.45 | BT Sport Extra
Both Benfica and Atletico Madrid booked their place in the knockout rounds of the Champions League on Matchday 5 but the prize of first place in Group C will be decided in Lisbon.
In their first competitive meeting on 30 October, Benfica came from behind to inflict only Atletico’s second defeat in 25 European games at their Vicente Calderon home.
Angel Correa marked his first Atletico start by scoring the opening goal with Nicolas Gaitan netting Benfica’s equaliser before teeing up the winner for teenager Goncalo Guedes, his first Champions League goal.
There were six cards in the first meeting in Spain and the appointment of Romanian referee Ovidiu Haţegan bodes well for more of the same at Estadio do Luz..
The Romanian domestic league typically has lots of cards and the officials there are used to issuing them. In his past two Champions League games, this referee waved 15 cards at an average of 7.50 cards-per-game.
Whilst qualification is not at stake, the all-important top spot in the group to avoid the big guns in the next round is. I’m more than happy to back Over 4.5 Cards at 4/6 with Bet365.
