CHAMPIONSHIP specialist Vince Blissett (@Vince_RFC) shares his verdict from Good Friday's clash between Wolves and Brighton.
Wolves v Brighton | Good Friday 17:00 | Sky Sports
There’s a Championship double-header on Good Friday with Wolves hosting Brighton followed by Leeds’ trip to Newcastle.
It’s a bit dull from a neutrals point of view having the top -wo both televised once again but it’s that time of the season. On paper both could be decent encounters though so we shouldn’t complain too much.
My initial thought was to back Wolves in some way but the odds aren’t very favourable. At around 2/1 to get the victory they are much lower than I was expecting and hoping.
Old Gold finding form
There was a time not long ago when Wolves were creating a lot of chances without being able to convert but they’ve turned things around recently and have been on very good form whilst scoring goals again.
Prior to last weekend’s surprising defeat at Bristol City they had won five in a row, including some very impressive victories.
A narrow home win over Rotherham was followed by two very good away wins in west London against Brentford and Fulham. Cardiff and then Nottingham Forest were then seen off back on home soil.
A late consolation goal at the weekend means they’ve now found the net in six consecutive games and it’d be a surprise if that isn’t up to seven at the final whistle.
Main man Helder Costa has missed the last two games but is expected back to play a part in this game, which is a huge boost.
Brighton’s defensive deficiencies
Brighton took control of top spot last weekend in beating QPR on Friday night followed by Newcastle losing the following day.
I’ve been over Brighton in a bit of detail previously so I won’t repeat myself here. One thing they do keep doing is conceding goals, particularly away.
In nine away league games since the turn of the year they’ve conceded 15 times whilst keeping two clean sheets in the process.
In those nine outings, David Stockdale has picked the ball out of his own net twice or more five times and in three cases the Seagulls have shipped at least three goals.
The betting angle
Teams goals in the route I’m going to take. There may well be more savvy ways to go about things if you have the opinion that Wolves will score twice but it’s the angle I’m attacking.
In their run of five consecutive victories, Wolves scored two or more goals on three occasions. Different bookmakers have slightly different wordings for the market but at the time of writing 888 have Total Wolves Goals Over 1.5 priced at 19/10 and I’m happy to get involved.
Best Bets
