CLOSE to a payout last week, Louis Ross (@KingLouis2105) is back with another excellent betting preview of this WGC event.

WGC Cadillac Championship | Thursday – Sunday | Sky Sports

The first World Golf Championship of 2015 starts this Thursday at the wonderful Doral. This is an extremely demanding course and it generally takes a player of Major standard to triumph here.

US Open form is a really good guide for this tournament. The course is long and fairways tight. Toughened up for 2014, the winning score of 284 (-4) was pretty high for the PGA Tour, and a full 15 shots higher than Tiger in 2013.

The winner here will almost certainly be one of the big hitters on tour. Doral has generally fallen to a past or future Major winner, although that stat was thrown out completely when Patrick Reed triumphed on debut a year ago.

Reed is one of those golfers that can rise to the occasion. His four tour wins at the age of 24 (only Tiger betters that) proves he has the nerve when it comes to the back 9 on Sunday. One bad shot took away a fifth win on Monday in the Honda Classic.

A player that really stands out is Graeme McDowell. G-Mac has form on this course, this format, and this type of golf.

The US Open tells you a thing or two about driving accuracy which is key here and apart from his win at Pebble Beach, McDowell has almost always performed well on these long tight courses.

I think he is a lock to finish Top 20 and I am more than happy to take 7/4 with Bet365. I am also very tempted by his outright odds and 66/1 to win with 888 Sport is something I shall be playing each way.

Dustin Johnson is another bomber who is in fantastic form, especially for someone who had to take an enforced six month break.

I'm one of those punters who has stuck with DJ over the last few years and really believe that he'll win a Major sooner rather than later (as will young Reed). The odds on Johnson winning at around 20/1 are a little skinny in a field of this quality, but 9/4 for a Top 10 finish with Betfred is very fair.

Best Bets

Patrick Reed to win the WGC Cadillac Championship Each Way (28/1 Paddy Power)

Graeme McDowell to win the WGC Cadillac Championship Each Way (66/1 888 Sport)

Graeme McDowell to finish in the Top 20 (7/4 Bet365)

Dustin Johnson to finish in the Top 10 (9/4 Betfred)

I have been interested in betting since a stint managing a bookmakers 20 years ago. I now work in the travel industry but spend 90% of my day thinking (and talking)about sport. Rarely missing an Arsenal home game, I still find time for my 25 year obsession with the NFL and the Chicago Bears in particular. I'm still stuck in the 80's and can't find anything better to listen to than The Jam or The Smiths. I am a stats junkie where the NFL is concerned and there is no sport in the world where they matter more. My mission is to convert you all to a wonderful sport. Oh and win a few quid along the way.
