The Ultimate Flat-Track Bullies?
Celtic were five points clear at the top of the SPFL on this day last year, so it's refreshing to see another team at the summit just now as we get the fireworks ready. That team is Dundee United, and their excellent form has it's roots firmly based in Tannadice. The Arabs have picked up 16 points out of a possible 18 on home turf this season, and they enjoyed another emphatic win on Saturday when disposing of St Mirren 3-0.
Whilst researching the weekend football last Friday I discovered a startling stat with regard to United. The stat relates to their dominant home form against bottom-half SPFL sides. The Terrors are now unbeaten in 17 matches against bottom-half sides at Tannadice, and perhaps more impressively have won the last 12 of those matches. Win-to-nil backers have also had a great time backing United in these kind of games with it paying out in seven of those 12 matches at healthy odds.
Just to put things into context, Celtic have slipped up twice at home to bottom-half sides since the United winning run began on April 6 2013. If you fancy getting involved from a betting point of view, the next games to keep an eye on are: Nov 22 – Kilmarnock (Killie are currently 5th and may drop by the time this game takes place), Jan 1 – Dundee and Jan 24 – Motherwell.
