Tuesday’s Bet Of The Day: Take a trip to The Valley

JACK Wright's (@JackWright_BSB) brilliant Bet of the Day continues on Tuesday as we head to League One.

Charlton vs Lincoln | Tuesday 4th May 2021, 19:00

This game means more to Charlton than to their play-off confirmed opponents, after drawing with Accrington on Saturday meaning they now require results to go their way elsewhere in order to finish inside the top-six.

But to get in that position the Addicks must start by take maximum points here, which should mean they will surely leave nothing on the pitch against a Lincoln side who will be looking to keep their end of season momentum going into the cup format shot at a place in the Championship.

If Michael Appleton chooses to rest some tired legs you can be sure that the players coming in to the starting eleven will be keen to impress and grab a place for the two-legged semi final and hopefully a chance to appear in a massive Wembley showdown.

Nigel Adkins has made it a seamless transition since taking over from Lee Bowyer, losing just one game in his eight games in charge, although only one win in their last five fixtures has left them with their fate out of their own hands.

Desperation to take their season in to at least the last game should ensure a fully committed performance here and cards for the home side look a shrewd play.

The Addicks have hit 20+ booking points more than any other side in League One, with 30 of their 44 matches so far seeing them cross that line and the recent trend is equally strong with seven of their last ten having them accrue 20+.

In a season where we have wondered about the reduction of home advantage, the stats at their Valley home are equally strong, with 14 of 21, a league high eight of their last ten and four of their last five, again a percentage no divisional rival can beat, all seeing the South East London outfit collect 20+ booking points.

Although the reverse fixture was back in September, it can only be a positive to have seen seven yellow cards issued by referee Marc Edwards, with four of those for Charlton.

Today’s referee, Kevin Johnson has a booking point average of 33.85 which may be a little less than September’s official, but he has issued at least 20+ to one team in each of his last eleven outings.

The Somerset-based official has taken charge of just one Charlton game so far this campaign, issuing yellow cards to Adedeji Oshilaja and Jason Pearce following on from dismissing Chuks Aneke for two bookable offences.

The Imps have had Mr Johnson take charge of two of their fixtures, with Ipswich receiving a caution and a straight red back in October and more recently Plymouth picking up two yellow cards at Home Park at the end of February.

All of which makes 20+ Charlton booking points at 10/11 with Sky Bet being a worthy Bet of the Day.

Having had a passion for football for as long as I can remember – I’m talking Shoot League Ladders here – one of my first “bets” is still my biggest win. After begging my mum to let me fill in her pools coupon so I could show off my knowledge, eight draws later and a cheque for £11,500 was soon in the post. As a Norwich fan it’s important to have a good grasp of what’s going on in the lower leagues and I also like exploring those less popular leagues to have a delve into any stats-based markets that are available. Right now, I’m particularly enjoying player bets. Outside of sport, I love eating and drinking - maybe a little too much - as well as listening to a varied spectrum of music, both from the comfort of my own home and at festivals.
