JACK Wright's (@JackWright_BSB) Bet of the Day continues on Tuesday as we head to the League Two play-offs.

Newport County vs Forest Green | Tuesday 18th May 2021, 20:15 | Sky Sports

The English League Two play-offs get underway in South Wales on Tuesday evening as two sides who ended the season locked together on 73 points do battle in search of a first leg advantage.

To further illustrate how tight these particular play-offs are look no further than the odds for who will gain promotion to League One which sees Morecambe priced as 5/2 favourites but just half a point back at 3/1 see the two outsiders Tranmere and Forest Green with the latter's opponents here, Newport in the middle!

Tight, close, cagey, competitive are all likely to be well-used words for these upcoming games with interim boss Jimmy Ball’s side potentially holding some psychological advantage having taken four points from their two clashes with the Welsh side including a 2-0 win here in the regular season.

However, the Exiles come into the playoffs unbeaten in five, winning three, crucially for this first leg tie all of which coming at home, they'll be confident of taking an advantage to The New Lawn next week.

This seems a tough one to call as far as the outcome is concerned however as already mentioned one thing that seems certain is a tough, no nonsense battle of the no quarter asked none given variety.

Both regular season match ups saw cards – five in total, two of which came in the opening 45 minutes, in the game played here with three for the visitors, while there was an evenly shared four cards, the first of which being shown after just nine minutes in the reverse fixture.

Our referee is Charles Breakspear who curiously has a fairly poor card per game average of 2.88 at this level – however that doesn’t put me off given how that rises to just under 4.5 when in charge of games in the third tier this season.

The Surrey based official also produced the goods on his only visit to Rodney Parade this term – showing four yellow cards, perfectly split between both halves and the two teams – a repeat of that performance will land the bet identified here.

A card to be shown in the opening 45 minutes and a total of four or more over the 90 – compiled through Bet365’s Bet Builder at odds of 19/20.

Having had a passion for football for as long as I can remember – I’m talking Shoot League Ladders here – one of my first “bets” is still my biggest win. After begging my mum to let me fill in her pools coupon so I could show off my knowledge, eight draws later and a cheque for £11,500 was soon in the post. As a Norwich fan it’s important to have a good grasp of what’s going on in the lower leagues and I also like exploring those less popular leagues to have a delve into any stats-based markets that are available. Right now, I’m particularly enjoying player bets. Outside of sport, I love eating and drinking - maybe a little too much - as well as listening to a varied spectrum of music, both from the comfort of my own home and at festivals.
