Football is a funny old game.

Having passed up several presentable opportunities in his opening three league games – all of which were in August – Harry Kane ended up opening his duck for the season with an attempted cross against Everton last Saturday.

Tottenham absolutely hammered their opponents last weekend, which did actually lead me to think twice about placing this bet. Having seen them unfortunate to lose against Chelsea and then somehow failing to beat Burnley, I thought they would deliver a hiding at some point soon, but could not see it coming at Goodison Park!

Having reflected on it, I decided that it was still worth getting with Spurs.

Swansea, their opponents on Saturday, have had the fewest shots so far this season and conceded the joint most. Four points from their opening four fixtures may not seem too bad, but it is probably more than their performances have deserved and I simply do not see Tottenham failing to take advantage of their friendly guests.

Tottenham’s victory against Dortmund on Wednesday will reduce the ‘Wembley hoodoo’ talk a little and a comfortable victory here can hopefully extinguish it completely.

The 3-0 correct score immediately took my fancy and that is available at 7/1 with Winner. However, having observed that the North London side win 4-0 on four occasions at home last season, I cannot miss the 12/1 the same firm are offering on this scoreline.

Best Bets

Tottenham v Swansea – Tottenham 3-0 Swansea (7/1 Winner)

Tottenham v Swansea – Tottenham 4-0 Swansea (12/1 Winner)
