Thursday’s Bet Of The Day: Get with goals in La Liga

JACK Wright's (@JackWright_BSB) Bet of the Day returns for Thursday as we head to La Liga.

Levante v Sevilla | Thursday 21st April 2022, 18:00 | La Liga TV

For today’s BotD we are taking on a game which has implications at both the top and bottom of La Liga.

Levante bagged a crucial three points at the weekend as they thumped relegation rivals Granada 4-1 in their biggest win of the season but with Cadiz then pulling off a shock defeat of Barcelona at Camp Nou little more than 24 hours later, the Frogs still have a six-point gap to bridge in order to escape the drop zone.

Alessio Lisci’s side have had no issues scoring goals all season with their tally of 39 the highest of those clubs in the bottom half of the table and they have actually hit the back of the net more times than three of the top 10 including Real Sociedad who sit as high as sixth.

Having scored twice against both Barcelona and UCL semi-finalists Villarreal in their last two games at Ciutat de València, the home side will certainly feel like they can cause problems to a Sevilla side who have injury doubts over key men Jules Koundé and Ivan Rakitić with Anthony Martial definitely ruled out.

The ‘Nervionenses’ threw away a 2-0 half-time lead to lose a five-goal thriller at the weekend, in doing so suffering their first home league defeat of the season and are now just three points clear of Real Betis in fifth – their UCL qualification place is suddenly in jeopardy.

Julen Lopetegui’s side still have the meanest defence in La Liga, conceding just 25 times from their opening 32 fixtures and may have seen just 10 of those feature three or more goals but in the last two games all of that has gone out of the window.

Prior to the Los Blancos defeat, Sevilla were twice pegged back by Granada, the side sitting just one place above this evening’s hosts, before sealing the game with two injury time goals meaning their last 180 minutes of football has produced 11 goals.

Levante’s last two games have only fallen one goal short of that total, with both seeing five strikes, meaning five of their last seven fixtures have crossed the over 2.5 goals line.

When two sides meet towards the end of the season with both having lots to play for and confident in their abilities to get a positive result, I think that points to goals and we can get on board with a best price of 21/20 at William Hill.

The reverse fixture ended 5-3 where tonight's bet would have landed just after the half hour and was priced around the same mark at 11/10 – there is also a good history of goals when these two sides meet, with recent clashes ending 3-1, 5-0 and 2-6!

So, in summary in a game where neither side can afford to lose and a draw does little for either we should see at least one side needing to attack throughout the game, making the selection a very nice price.

Having had a passion for football for as long as I can remember – I’m talking Shoot League Ladders here – one of my first “bets” is still my biggest win. After begging my mum to let me fill in her pools coupon so I could show off my knowledge, eight draws later and a cheque for £11,500 was soon in the post. As a Norwich fan it’s important to have a good grasp of what’s going on in the lower leagues and I also like exploring those less popular leagues to have a delve into any stats-based markets that are available. Right now, I’m particularly enjoying player bets. Outside of sport, I love eating and drinking - maybe a little too much - as well as listening to a varied spectrum of music, both from the comfort of my own home and at festivals.
