Thursday’s Bet Of The Day: Corners king in Portugal

JACK Wright's (@JackWright_BSB) brilliant Bet of the Day continues on Thursday as we head to Portugal.

Farense vs Guimaraes | Thursday 6th May 2021, 20:30

Hands up if you thought I was off to Lisbon and the pending bookings fest officiated by the card wielding maniac that is Artur Manuel Ribeiro Soares Dias – ok, well you can all put your hands down now!

As much as I loved the look of that game there’s a lot of work to be done to hit a manageable line – so I’m keeping it simple and although I’m staying in Portugal, the game I have selected for my Bet of the Day is Farense v Vitória Guimarães.

The hosts find themselves four points adrift of automatic safety with four games of the season left to play, after what would normally be considered a good 0-0 draw at Gil Vecente, they will be desperate for all three points here knowing a win will at least lift them out of the bottom two.

Although the visitors sit in sixth place, they arrive at Estádio de São Luís on the back of six-match losing run on the road which should give Jorge Costa's men the confidence to attack from the outset in search of the victory they desperately crave.

That will probably suit the Vimaranenses however, who will look to exploit their opportunities to counter which should lead to an open and attractive game.

For that reason, I have cast my eye to the corners markets in this one.

Farense rank third in the league for corners won with an average of 5.87 per game whilst also conceding the sixth highest 5.27 – with Vitória ranking sixth for flag kicks won (5.30).

The bet that I really like the look of is with Sky Bet and is for both teams to have four or more corners – a metric that the Leões de Faro rank highest in Liga NOS with 70% of their total games (21/30) seeing this bet land – the visitors are fifth in the list landing in 13 of 30 league fixtures this term, including the reverse fixture in February which saw 12 flag kicks with eight for Guimaraes.

Finally taking a snapshot of recent form all of the last seven SC Farense fixtures has seen both sides take at least four corners, with the same happening in six of João Henriques sides last seven.

Farense have hit four or more corners in each of their last 18 fixtures and for Vitória it’s a run of 10.

All of which, given the expected game situation, points to over four corners for each team another confident Bet of the Day selection.

Having had a passion for football for as long as I can remember – I’m talking Shoot League Ladders here – one of my first “bets” is still my biggest win. After begging my mum to let me fill in her pools coupon so I could show off my knowledge, eight draws later and a cheque for £11,500 was soon in the post. As a Norwich fan it’s important to have a good grasp of what’s going on in the lower leagues and I also like exploring those less popular leagues to have a delve into any stats-based markets that are available. Right now, I’m particularly enjoying player bets. Outside of sport, I love eating and drinking - maybe a little too much - as well as listening to a varied spectrum of music, both from the comfort of my own home and at festivals.
