Sunday’s Bet Of The Day: Second-leg shootout anticipated

JACK Wright's (@JackWright_BSB) Bet of the Day continues on Saturday as we head to the the EFL play-offs.

Morecambe vs Tranmere | Sunday 23rd May 2021, 12:30 | Sky Sports

We played this bet in the first leg and we were collecting our winnings before we were sipping on our half-time cuppa.

In me preview prior to Thursday’s game I pointed out the form Tranmere had under Ian Dawes when he was the stop gap between Mike Jackson and Keith Hill – his five games in charge produced five wins – one in extra time – a total of 20 goals with 15 in the “for” column.

After a dreadful end to the season with their final 11 games producing just two wins, scoring only seven goals, Rovers took the unusual step of relieving their manager (Hill) of his duties and turned to Dawes once again to return them to League One.

Although the 58-year-old suffered his first defeat at the helm in the first leg, in every other attacking matrix it was a fantastic performance, certainly full of promise and enough for us to expect more of the same in at the Globe Arena.

I was impressed with Tranmere from the first whistle, as they flew at Morecambe creating chance after chance firing in a total of 18 shots by the end of the night from their massive 75% share of the ball, it was just the type of performance that brought those goal filled games of November.

A reminder that Morecambe had the second highest total goals per game average in League Two with 2.76 not one 0-0 draw and with 57% of games seeing three or more strikes a record further improved in the game at Prenton Park.

With top scorer James Vaughan now back fit and in the knowledge if they play as well as they did on Thursday but take their chances, they have a massive opportunity to claim a Wembley spot, I was very tempted to the Super Whites to score over 1.5 team goals at eye catching odds of 2/1 but for a Bet of the Day selection I’m playing it safer.

I expect Tranmere to really push for goals from the off, whilst I don’t think the Shrimpers can be confident of a shut out if their visitors attack as strongly as they did in the first leg so, if it ain’t broke don’t fix it, I’m going for over 2.5 total goals again which I am surprised to see once again at very generous odds of 13/10 with Bet Victor.

Having had a passion for football for as long as I can remember – I’m talking Shoot League Ladders here – one of my first “bets” is still my biggest win. After begging my mum to let me fill in her pools coupon so I could show off my knowledge, eight draws later and a cheque for £11,500 was soon in the post. As a Norwich fan it’s important to have a good grasp of what’s going on in the lower leagues and I also like exploring those less popular leagues to have a delve into any stats-based markets that are available. Right now, I’m particularly enjoying player bets. Outside of sport, I love eating and drinking - maybe a little too much - as well as listening to a varied spectrum of music, both from the comfort of my own home and at festivals.
