Sunday’s Bet Of The Day: Goals forecast for final day

JACK Wright's (@JackWright_BSB) brilliant Bet of the Day continues on Sunday as we head to the final day of the regular League One season.

Charlton vs Hull | Sunday 9th May 2021, 12:00

After a dramatic closing day to the regular season in the Championship and League Two yesterday, Sunday has been left all to League One to provide the EFL thrills, spills, joy and heartbreak.

Three clubs are chasing the last golden ticket to the play-offs with Portsmouth currently occupying the coveted 6th place on 72 points with a +15 goal difference, next comes Oxford one point behind but with +17 goal difference and finally we have Charlton also on 71 points but with an inferior goal difference of +13.

Although Charlton are going to need help from elsewhere the first thing they have to take care of is defeating champions Hull at the Valley which will be no easy task as they would be the first side to do so in 14 games, although the home side have only been beaten once in the same time frame.

With the game set up that the Addicks will have to attack their visitors and with Grant McCann’s side not only having the highest points total in the league but they are also top scorers with 80 goals to their name I am focusing on the goals market here.

Each of the Tigers last seven fixtures have seen over 2.5 goals and they have contributed at least two strikes in all of those games, with striker Josh Magennis finding the net in all bar one – he now is only one goal behind the club’s 19-goal top scorer for the season Mallik Wilks – some friendly competition there is all but assured.

With nothing to lose and it all to gain Nigel Adkins side have also been firing plenty of goals in, both their last two home games have seen four goals and they recently went to Plymouth and smashed six unanswered efforts past a helpless Michael Cooper in the Argyle goal.

Personally, I can see more of the same in this high noon shoot out with Charlton knowing they will have to score and Hull having the luxury of an end of season free swing with nothing at stake and the League One trophy in the cabinet.

We saw yesterday the spike in goals with teams either with nothing at stake or in last chance saloon to achieve their objectives and there is no reason to expect anything different so with surprisingly good odds of 10/11 available with Betfair it’s a strong choice for my Bet of the Day.

Having had a passion for football for as long as I can remember – I’m talking Shoot League Ladders here – one of my first “bets” is still my biggest win. After begging my mum to let me fill in her pools coupon so I could show off my knowledge, eight draws later and a cheque for £11,500 was soon in the post. As a Norwich fan it’s important to have a good grasp of what’s going on in the lower leagues and I also like exploring those less popular leagues to have a delve into any stats-based markets that are available. Right now, I’m particularly enjoying player bets. Outside of sport, I love eating and drinking - maybe a little too much - as well as listening to a varied spectrum of music, both from the comfort of my own home and at festivals.
