Sunday’s Bet Of The Day: Count on corners at Wembley

JACK Wright's (@JackWright_BSB) Bet of the Day continues on Saturday as we head to the League One play-off final…

Blackpool vs Lincoln | Sunday 30th May 2020, 20:00

The League One play-off final takes centre stage this Sunday as Blackpool look to get the better of Lincoln for the first time this season at the third attempt, while the Imps aim to be only the fifth side in the division to beat the Seasiders in 2021.

Any side who can boast a 20-goal striker (Jerry Yates) coupled with the best defensive record in the league, conceding 37 goals and keeping a top ranked 22 clean sheets, is always likely to be in the shake up for promotion at the business end of the season so on that basis it is not surprise to see Neil Critchley’s men installed as favourites to claim that final spot in the Championship for next term.

But this one is potentially trickier to call than we may first think, despite some inconsistencies Michael Appleton’s side also kept 20 clean sheets of their own through the regular season so with two sides with strong defences we are looking at fine margins to decide this.

Blackpool ended their campaign with a sequence of eight games where at least one side failed to score (W5, D1, L2) and that was continued with the first leg of the semi final with Oxford before the crazy 3-3 draw at Bloomfield Road confirmed their Wembley date.

So, although if pushed I would agree with the bookies and make the Tangerines most likely to emerge from this one victorious it was another stat that caught my eye when casting my eye over this fixture.

Lincoln won the third most corners in League One with 259 however no side won more than their 134 away from home, at an average of 5.83 per road trip and I see this fixture playing out more like a game away from their LNER stadium.

Bet 365 have the corner line set a little more attractively than other firms and we can back the Lincoln to take five or more flag kicks with their odds of 4/5 marginally bigger than the 73/100 on offer from Sky Bet as well as Paddy Power and William who both price at 4/5.

The Imps crossed this line in both games with Blackpool in the regular season, taking five at home and six when travelling to the north-west, the play off contests with Sunderland once again saw them cross the necessary line in both games, taking five in the home leg before keeping that trend of being more prolific on the road by swinging in seven corners at the Stadium of Light.

Having had a passion for football for as long as I can remember – I’m talking Shoot League Ladders here – one of my first “bets” is still my biggest win. After begging my mum to let me fill in her pools coupon so I could show off my knowledge, eight draws later and a cheque for £11,500 was soon in the post. As a Norwich fan it’s important to have a good grasp of what’s going on in the lower leagues and I also like exploring those less popular leagues to have a delve into any stats-based markets that are available. Right now, I’m particularly enjoying player bets. Outside of sport, I love eating and drinking - maybe a little too much - as well as listening to a varied spectrum of music, both from the comfort of my own home and at festivals.
