MIDWEEK – NON-LEAGUE BETTING from ALAN ALGER
No video for the midweek matches in The Skrill Premier, North and South, but here are my thoughts in writing for my FOUR selections from 15 matches in two divisions which take place on Tuesday night.
GATESHEAD to beat Chester FC (The Skrill Premier) – currently 6/4
Gateshead have won three of their last five matches, and while we cannot excuse the heavy defeat at home to Wrexham a week ago, the other was by a respectable 1-0 scoreline at leaders Cambridge United. There is no doubt in my mind that Gary Mills has improved their fortunes and the best prices on offer severely underestimate the chances of them winning. Chester look as if they've got back on track, purely in the fact that they've only lost one of their last five games. Looking deeper tells a different story though and wins against Wrexham and Macclesfield can be explained by the situation each of those opponents were in at the time. Certainly enough for us to speculate that they haven't improved enough to win away at the International Stadium here after a long journey!
LUTON TOWN to win at Woking (The Skrill Premier) – currently 6/5
Woking boss Garry Hill was angry with his side after the defeat at Macclesfield on Saturday so will be looking for a response here. New signing Darren Murphy comes into the squad, but Scott Rendell misses out due to loan rules – and that could be key. Woking scuppered our Hyde bet last week, but there was enough evidence from that game to suggest that opposing them wasn't the worst bet we've ever had! That shone through at Macclesfield on Saturday. Luton have lost one of their last nine and the team spirit fostered by coming from behind twice against Lincoln at the weekend should be used to their advantage here! They are still a work in progress for John Still, but have enough about them to justify a bet at anything above Evens!
CAMBRIDGE UNITED to beat Nuneaton Town (The Skrill Premier) – currently 11/10
I was impressed with Cambridge when I saw them at the weekend and want to be with them again tonight. That said, I don’t think the wheels will come tumbling off Nuneaton just because of one defeat against Salisbury. This is a tough game though and I think it will be back-to-back league defeats for Kevin Wilkin’s men (for the first time since February 9th!). Cambridge have only conceded two goals at home and their style of play means they create plenty of good chances. I have been impressed with Nuneaton, but even a couple of minor alterations to their team on Saturday proved decisive against Salisbury. Back Cambridge at any level down to and including 10/11.
BOSTON UNITED to beat Bradford Park Avenue (The Skrill North) – currently 23/20
Only three games in the North division tonight, but Boston catch the eye. Only one defeat in nine, this could be a season where they get back to challenging for promotion. We are getting a good price because their opponents BPA have been in good form too (unbeaten in seven). Despite that I think Boston's run has been achieved in slightly harder circumstances and home advantage can pull them through at a nice price.
