WILLIE DUNCAN’S famed weekend NAP from north of the border returns for 2016/17 and he’s heading to the Scottish League One on Saturday.
Queen's Park v Livingston | Saturday 15.00
It’s not so much a case of “Match of the Day” as “Mismatch of the Day” in Scottish League One this weekend, as high-flying Livingston travel to Hampden to take on Queen’s Park.
Some questioned whether the Lions would have the stomach for a fight after suffering a sickening relegation last term, but David Hopkin’s side have silenced their critics in spectacular style so far this season, hammering home 13 goals in their first three league matches.
With maximum points – and perfect performances – so far this season, Livingston look like a Championship side plying their trade in League One – and, if the men from the Tony Macaroni Arena (no, I’m not kidding), can keep it up, they’ll be every bit as reliable for punters as Dunfermline Athletic were in this division last season.
Saturday’s opponents, Queen’s Park, rose to the third tier of Scottish football after scraping into the play-offs by just two goals – and, to their credit, the Spiders went on to seal a promotion that looked most unlikely for long spells of the season.
The Spiders will certainly fight for every single point this season – and they’ll have to, for I fully expect Queen’s Park to be embroiled in a battle at the wrong end of the table for most of the campaign.
In all fairness, the newly promoted side have made a decent fist of things so far, shrugging off a disappointing home defeat to Airdrieonians on the opening day of the season, bouncing back with a win against Stenhousemuir – another side that I expect will struggle badly this term.
Last weekend, Queen’s Park played out a goalless draw against Brechin City but both sides were slightly fortunate to get nil from an abysmal game and, unless, there is a very sharp upturn in fortunes, Gus MacPherson’s men will be punished by Livingston this weekend.
For me, there is a clear gulf in class between the two teams that will take to the pitch at Hampden Park this weekend – and it’s the away side who look like tremendous value at 6/5 (BetVictor) to make it four wins from four in Scottish League One.
Livingston at 6/5 (BetVictor) is my best bet from Scotland this weekend – get involved!
