Steve Clarke performed a minor miracle to take Kilmarnock into Europe – and he'll need another to keep Scotland's Euro 2020 hopes alive.

First up it's a tough Russia side on Friday night and he returns to Hampden on Monday with the world's best team Belgium the opposition. Belgium are banker material while we'll need to be at our best to prevent the Russians leaving Glasgow with three points.

Russia have won three out of four but the Scots have been on the back foot since that 3-0 loss in Kazakhstan cost Alex McLeish his job. The visitors are favourites at a best 7/4 with bet365 with a home win paying 19/10 with the same firm. I reckon a draw is our best hope at 2/1.

Russia not to lose will be a popular bet at 1/2 with Marathon while Russia draw no bet is 43/50 at the same firm. I hate backing against Scotland but we look weak in defence and short up top.

Clarke though made Killie tough to beat and we know he's tactically astute so let's hope he pulls a rabbit, or even a Ronaldo, out the hat. We've kept just four clean sheets in 16 and are relying on the likes of David Bates, Mikey Devlin and Liam Cooper at the back.

I can't see us stopping Russia scoring so to win we'd need to net two and that's unlikely. Goals are more likely to come from midfield so consider James Forrest to net at 3/1 with Unibet. Zenit star Artem Dyzuba is favourite to score at 9/4 with Paddy Power and 11-2 at Betway to break the deadlock.

Best Bets

Scotland v Russia – Russia draw no bet (43/50 Marathon)

Scotland v Russia – 2-3 Total goals (20/21 bet365)
