The last month has surely been the most successful of Frank Lampard’s management career. Since they squandered a two-goal lead and conceded three goals against Southampton on 17th October, the West London side have won five and drawn two in all competitions and conceded just one goal in that period.

Indeed, while I remain sceptical that the Blues defence will look so strong when they face tougher opposition both domestically and in Europe, I do believe that they will have enough about them to defeat Rennes.

Despite the fact that we are just halfway through the group stages of the Champions League it is already looking very likely that Chelsea and Sevilla will be the two sides to progress from Group E as they are six points ahead of Krasnodar and Rennes with just three games to play.

Rennes have lost to both Sevilla and Chelsea without finding the net and while they were unfortunate to have a player sent off after 40 minutes of the reverse fixture, they have shown little in their other matches – or in Ligue 1 – to suggest that they can pull of an improbable victory on Tuesday night.

Moreover, looking further back it is worth noting that last season Rennes lost at home to Cluj and failed to beat Celtic in European competition last season.

I do expect them to have another Europa League adventure but simply feel that the new found defensive solidarity that Chelsea have gained will ensure that they keep their opponents at arms length while Mssrs Werner, Ziyech, Abraham and Mount will create enough chances for Lampard’s side to edge this.

I do think the 6/4 on Chelsea and Under 3.5 Goals is excellent value but evens (Betway) on an away victory and four goals or fewer being scored is even more enticing. That is what Betway are offering and what I shall be taking.
