Rangers vs Kilmarnock Betting Preview: Don’t expect an Ibrox rout

RANGERS welcome Kilmarnock on Saturday for their latest Premiership match-up. Daniel McCulloch (@DMcCulloch1984) shares his favourite fancies.

Pleasingly, my Under 2.5 Goals bet landed when Livingston and Rangers drew 0-0 last week. Rangers dominated that encounter, managing 22 shots to their opponents two. However, they created very few clear cut chances, with Borna Barisic's well-saved free-kick the closest they came to finding a winner.

Once again Rangers did not looking like getting breached defensively, with a shot from the halfway line the only effort on target Livingston managed.

I am going to take the same angle in this encounter, because I struggle to see Kilmarnock scoring here and don't think Rangers will manage three by themselves.

Since Steven Gerrard took over at Ibrox, Rangers have found the Ayrshire side a tough proposition, winning just two of their six encounters, while also suffering a couple of goals themselves.  In the three games at Ibrox, there have been just five goals, with two 1-1 draws and a 1-0 victory for the home side.

Regardless of who has been at the helm, Rangers have found Kilmarnock a tough nut to crack, managing to score three goals on just one occasion in the 12 matches the two have faced since the former were promoted back to the Premier League.

Seven of those 12 matches have seen two goals or fewer, which makes the 6/4 BetVictor are offering on under 2.5 goals very attractive. Moreover, while I wouldn't usually back anything shorter than 4/6, I really like the look of the 3/5 William Hill are offering on Under 3.5 Goals. You have to go back a decade and 16 matches since there were four goals or more in an encounter between these two.

I am certain Gerrard would take a 1-0 or 2-0 victory for his side and he might well have to.
