NEWCASTLE entertain Tottenham in Super Sunday's Premier League showdown. Tom Love (@TomLove_18) shares his betting thoughts.
Newcastle vs Tottenham | Sunday 17th October 2021, 16:30 | Sky Sports
- There have been over 2.5 goals scored in 6 of Tottenham's last 7 league away games.
- Tottenham have conceded at least 2 goals in 6 of their last 7 league away matches.
- Both teams have scored in 6/7 Newcastle league games.
It will no doubt be a frenzied atmosphere at St James’ Park on Sunday with it being the first game without Mike Asley owning the football club. There were jubilant scenes outside the ground earlier in the week when the news was announced and the fans have every right to celebrate after the turgid and wholly unambitious reign of Ashley. T
here’s clearly renewed verve and optimism around the Tyne and that should filter down to the players who will no doubt be trying to feed off the vibe and go to win the game against a stuttering Spurs side.
Steve Bruce is likely to take the reigns for this game at least, his 1000th game in management in fact and if he does bow out he will want to go with a win, he’s got nothing to lose so expect him to tell his players to get at Tottenham. Most of the attacking drive will no doubt come through the lively Allan Saint-Maximin, only Adama Traore has completed more dribbles than the former Nice man.
Looking at Spurs they may actually benefit if the Toon Army go attacking them, it means they can play on the break with the likes of Lucas Moura and Heung Min-Son. It’s the style of play that worked so well for Nuno at Wolves in the top flight and despite him being a more defensive manager than most he will be looking at this game as one where they can grab a few goals.
Over 2.5 Goals therefore looks a canny way into this clash at 5/6 (MansionBet). After all Spurs have shipped 3 goals in each of their last two away games with Palace and Arsenal. 63% of games at St James’ last term saw overs cop, including the meeting between these two. It has the hallmarks of an exciting game.
One player I can’t ignore for a card here is Oliver Skipp who has been chalked up at 4/1 (William Hill) to go into the book. Skipp has already picked up 5 cards in all competitions this season and is seemingly the man to partner Pierre Emile-Hojberg in the engine room. I worry for him if caught on the break with Saint-Maximin and Joe Willock bombing through the thirds.
Best Bets
Newcastle vs Tottenham – Over 2.5 Goals (5/6 MansionBet)
Newcastle vs Tottenham – Oliver Skipp to be carded (4/1 William Hill)
