NBA Ante-Post Preview 2014/15

Well we’re back again. After a long break (or so it felt), we take a look at what should be a fascinating new NBA season. So who should we look out for?

LeBron James left Miami Heat (40/1 Coral) in the off-season to rejoin his former team the Cleveland Cavaliers (7/2 Coral) and with that talisman on court alongside new team-mate Kevin Love, the Cavaliers didn’t get rebounded in any pre-season game. They make up a formidable big-three alongside Kyrie Irving, just making Cleveland favourites.

But do I believe they’ll win the competition outright? No. I just can’t see how the Cavaliers are going to keep the magical three fit and firing all season long. Love and Irving have struggled for full fitness over the past few years and the back-up players just don’t compare.

In 2013/14 I recommended taking on the Heat and they duly lost out to the San Antonio Spurs (9/2 Coral). Their star-studded big-three of LeBron, Chris Bosh and Dwayne Wade came up short and the Spurs clinched the title, even after all the attention on their ‘ageing squad’. But I’m not looking to back either side this time around.

So who has the depth to mount a challenge this time around? I truly believe Chicago Bulls (17/2 Coral) have what it takes to get over the line. I’ve watched them in pre-season and they look really sharp, even coming back from 21 points down against Denver Nuggets to win!

Derrick Rose looks fit and healthy and this could be his season. Add Pau Gasol to that roster and a first post-Jordan title win could be on the cards. I think Joakhim Noah’s a bit of a muppet but he can hold down his own, Jimmy Butler’s an excellent defender and the back-up is strong enough too – a final with the Cavaliers is well within their grasp.
