Monday’s Bet Of The Day: Iberian encounter to feature cards

JACK Wright's (@JackWright_BSB) brilliant Bet of the Day continues on Monday as we head to Portugal.

Portimonense vs Moreirense | Monday 10th May 2021, 18:00

It’s back off to Portugal to start the week as Moreirense look to end a five-game winless run to keep in the hunt for a top-six finish and European qualification – they visit a Portimonense side who know a victory should secure their Primeira Liga status for another season

However, as you won’t be surprised to read it isn’t the result I will be focusing on here or even the number of goals scored but of course our good friend the cards markets.

In a game that holds interest at the both ends of the table we can be assured of a high-octane clash so to complete the jigsaw we just need a referee not afraid to dip in to his pocket.

Good news for us is we have Fábio José Costa Veríssimo holding the whistle – a man who provided us with recent Bet of the Day winners in Rio Ave v Sporting, with nine yellows, one red and Maritimo v Braga which had seven yellow cards.

The 38-year-old has official has only taken charge of one of these sides once this campaign when Portimonense fell to a 2-1 home defeat to Santa Clara, a match which saw him dish out three yellow cards to Paulo Sérgio’s side amongst a total of nine cautions!

A repeat of that on his second visit to Estádio Municipal de Portimão would be perfect especially with what looks a cracking bet using the build #YourOdds feature with William Hill.

Over 1.5 cards for both teams works out at a tasty looking 1/1 with both these sides drawing cards against them on a very regular basis.

Moreirense have seen their opponents pick up at least two cards in each of their last 15 fixtures – with Portimonense drawing two or more cards from their opponents in seven of their last 10 games.

All of which points to a confident Bet of the Day selection to see both sides picking up the necessary cards here.

Having had a passion for football for as long as I can remember – I’m talking Shoot League Ladders here – one of my first “bets” is still my biggest win. After begging my mum to let me fill in her pools coupon so I could show off my knowledge, eight draws later and a cheque for £11,500 was soon in the post. As a Norwich fan it’s important to have a good grasp of what’s going on in the lower leagues and I also like exploring those less popular leagues to have a delve into any stats-based markets that are available. Right now, I’m particularly enjoying player bets. Outside of sport, I love eating and drinking - maybe a little too much - as well as listening to a varied spectrum of music, both from the comfort of my own home and at festivals.
