New York City FC v DC United | Saturday 8th September 2018, 21:55 | Sky Sports

New York City FC are suffering from a poor run of form which has come at the wrong time of the season.

A 1-0 home defeat against New England during the week has seen them fall away from the Supporters Shield race, handing the initiative to rivals New York Red Bulls and Atlanta United.

City’s defeat against New England was their third in four games, and now they haven’t tasted victory since early August. It’s a difficult period for manager Domenec Torrent who must improve his side’s fortunes, or they will struggle in the post-season which gets underway next month.

DC United come into this game after a very impressive 3-1 win over Atlanta United. Ben Olsen’s side implemented the perfect game plan which did its job of nullifying Atlanta’s prolific forwards.

D.C. sat deep and allowed Atlanta to play before picking them off on the counter attack. It would make sense to try that again as NYCFC are a side who have shown signs of frustration in recent games.

Yankee Stadium has been a fortress for NYCFC, but they have been struggling of late against teams who have arrived to compete. The New York side are on a run of three home games without a win and now they face a D.C. United side who are still dreaming of making the playoffs.

Back D.C. to upset the apple cart in the Big Apple.

I grew up a Huddersfield Town fan because of my old man, and I still support them to this day (Currently reaping the rewards in the big time). Our typical Saturday consisted of a quick trip to the bookies before spending the afternoon at the football. I’d create a very optimistic 10-fold every weekend and my Dad would kindly throw a couple of quid on – Although they never came in. I fell in love with Major League Soccer a few years ago, it’s an entertaining league and fun to have a punt on. I’m a student sports journalist and I run an award-winning MLS website. My ultimate goal is to move to the United States full-time following my graduation. My main hobbies are the gym, Joe Rogan’s podcast, watching Huddersfield Town, and listening to Oasis
