Manchester United v Derby | Tuesday 25th September 2018, 20:00 | Sky Sports
Frank Lampard faces former manager Jose Mourinho in what looks a tasty third round League Cup fixture at Old Trafford.
Lampard enjoyed a crazy amount of success under Mourinho at Chelsea, winning two Premier League titles amongst other things and now faces him ex boss as a manager for the first time.
Manchester United
It’s been a difficult start to the season for Mourinho’s men, suffering early season defeats at Brighton and then against Spurs.
However, in more recent times wins against Burnley, Watford and then Young Boys seemed to instigate a mini revival, which was bought to a halt following a disappointing home draw against Wolves on Saturday.
United already find themselves eight points adrift of the top and a cup run is exactly what Mourinho and United might need.
Derby
Frank Lampard has enjoyed a moderate amount of success since entering the managerial world and has so far led his Derby side to sixth in the Championship, only two points off top spot.
Results have been a little inconsistent at times, including a goalless draw at home to Blackburn last week, and before that a 1-0 away defeat at Rotherham, which saw Lampard receive his first managerial red card.
The new manager will be relishing taking on Mourinho but will also know Saturday’s trip to Bolton may hold priority.
The betting angle
It could be said that it’s hard to trust United at the moment, having already dropped points against teams such as Brighton and Wolves.
However, both United and Mourinho have an excellent record in the competition, combining to win it in 2016, and will be wanting to make sure they get back to winning ways against a Derby side who may have other matters to focus on.
United should win and I expect them to do so with little trouble. They’ve had defensive issues but I can see them keeping Derby at bay and Sky Bet giving a generous 5/6 on the Red Devils to win to nil looks very good.
Best Bets
Manchester United v Derby – Manchester United to win ‘to nil’ (5/6 Sky Bet)
