Livingston vs Rangers Betting Preview: Don’t expect a goal-glut at Almondvale

Amazingly, just two weeks in to the season, Rangers have the chance to go eight points clear of Celtic with victory against Livingston. While a COVID breach by a Celtic player is the reason behind this opportunity (Celtic have had two matches postponed), the table is already looking pretty in the eyes of the Rangers support, in what is such a pivotal season for the Ibrox club.

In truth, the Teddy Bears have started the season well. They have scored seven league goals without reply and have only allowed their opponents to have four shots on target across those matches.

It is therefore unsurprisingly that they are a best price of 3/10, and with little logic available to give Livi much chance here, it is to the goals market I turn.

I was surprised to see odds against quotes on Under 2.5 Goals. While such a bet would have been a loser in four of the six combined matches the two sides have played this season, looking at a larger dataset gives you confidence to oppose goals.

Eight of Livi’s last 13 matches have seen two goals or fewer, including a 1-0 defeat to Rangers back in February. Similarly seven of Rangers last 13 matches have also seen such a bet oblige.

A further source of confidence is that Livingston’s artificial pitch is pretty difficult to get accustomed too and with poor weather expected it is hard to see a free-flowing game.

Indeed, if you look at the results between these two at the Almondvale Stadium across the last six years they read: 0-1, 0-0, 1-1, 1-1, 0-0, 1-0, 0-0, 1-0, 0-0, 0-3 and 0-2.

Basically, there have been three goals or more in just one of the last 11 matches in Livi. With this in mind, the 11/10 Bet365 are offering on Under 2.5 Goals looks like a great bet to me.
