Many people seemed to have convinced themselves that Leicester are a bet in this encounter but I am certainly not one of them. You have to go back to April 2017 for the last time Liverpool lost at Anfield, while their record since the start of last season reads won 22 and lost one at home.

I understand that Liverpool are short of defensive options, with Virgil Van Dijk, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Joe Gomez among their most recent absentees but I do believe that this is encounter between a side (Liverpool) who simply find a way to win matches and another (Leicester) who once again seem to have better results than their performances deserve.

To date this season, Leicester have earned nine penalties in just eight games. Most of those would surely be in the ‘soft’ category and that is before you consider the victory against Arsenal in which they scored with their first shot on-target and in which their opponents had twice as many shots and shots on target than their opponents.

Leicester have won three games by a three-goal margin – against West Brom, Manchester City and Leeds – but they had six penalties in those encounters and scored each of them.

Therefore, while I expect Leicester’s pace to cause a makeshift Liverpool backline problems, I do ultimately expect Liverpool to win this one. Last season Jurgen Klopp’s side won this fixture 2-1 but completely dominated the game, having 18 shots to their opponents two.

I wouldn’t be surprised if it is the same scoreline in this game, so my two bets are Liverpool to win, which is available at 10/11 with William Hill and Liverpool and BTTS at 9/4 with Bet365.

Best Bets

Liverpool vs Leicester – Liverpool to win (10/11 William Hill)

Liverpool vs Leicester – Liverpool to win and Both Teams To Score (9/4 Bet365)

I have loved numbers and sport throughout my life, so betting was a natural step. I started writing my own betting column at university and have continued throughout my adult life. I bet on football, golf and the NFL mainly but two flies going up a wall could also capture my attention. I am a West Brom fan and also follow teams in other sports but I think it's fair to say that no side compare with The Baggies!
