SOCCER Saturday pundit Hugh Wilson (@hugh_wilson) returns from another winning weekend by taking a look at the best bet from the League Two showdown between two in-form sides, Luton Town and Southend United.
Luton Town v Southend United | 15.00
I'm changing tact this weekend and taking a leaf out of Gavin Horsfall's (@GHorsfall) Anytime Notebook and taking an interest in Luke Wilkinson of Luton. I mentioned on Twitter that the centre-half had managed two goals in his two games prior to the midweek Johnstone's Paint Trophy fixture and he looked far too big at 50/1 (William Hill) to score the opener or 12/1 (BetVictor) to net at anytime.
He didn't grab a goal then but I'm going to stick with him. I reported on the Hatters a few weeks ago for Sky Sports and I was really impressed. They're very strong at home, they've now won four of an unbeaten five-game spell and John Still has got them playing good football. Wilkinson's been very much part of that success and has just been named Skybet Player of the Month for September.
He's a menace from set-plays and his goals have come from free-kicks, rising highest to head home. Now Southend are a solid unit but have looked a little shaky in patches on the road and have conceded from dead ball situations to centre-halves against Wimbledon and York recently. So can Luton take advantage? Well the prices are way off and I just can't ignore them.
I'm concentrating on the Anytime Goalscorer market. Wilkinson's 11/1 with Paddy Power to score and on a small stakes weekend I wouldn't put you off taking the 33/1 he grabs the opener at Kenilworth Road either.
Best Bets
Luton v Southend – Luke Wilkinson to score first (33/1 Stan James)
