OUR racing man Graeme Johnston (@GraemeJ_83) is so committed to the cause he's sent us this article from his holi-bobs!

Hola amigos, I'm in Barcelona this week so this will be short and sweet without notes or reliable internet to back me up, but I'm confident I will find us a winner or two, as I have a holiday to pay for!

Top class Flat action is gradually returning and some horses looking to sit at the top table of middle distances line up here. Romsdal kept top company for most of last season being placed in the Derby and the St Leger, and he's a horse I like a lot. He returned with a win at Kempton in March and I make him the horse to beat.

Pethers Moon is a good horse, if not quite a Group 1 animal, but conceding weight on his seasonal return will be beyond him. Arab Spring from the Stout yard may go on to be the best horse from this race, but you would imagine his targets are later in the season and I would expect him to improve significantly from his seasonal debut.

I expect Romsdal to win this before competing in some of the top races during the summer and I like the 7/4 on offer with William Hill.

This race sees the return of last season's star two year old filly Tiggy Wiggy. A horse I loved last year, she went from strength to strength ending the campaign with a stunning victory in the Chevely Park Stakes. During the course of the season she beat almost every two year old filly of note, and though stamina is an issue she looks a cut above these.

People will come out and say she won't stay and was an archetypal two year old who won't train on, but that's not me. She is the best horse in the race taking on horses that she would have demolished over six furlongs last season.

Yes it's an extra 201 meters but I prefer to look at the positives. Evens (BetVictor) she wins this for a stable that is mopping up Classic trials is a huge price. I wouldn't be backing her for the 1000 Guineas just yet, but I see her staking her claim on Saturday.

What a race! This is without doubt going to be the top trial for the 2000 Guineas this season and I'm going for a value selection. Ivawood and Estidhkaar looked top class last season until both lost some of their auras in Group 1 races. Excuses can be made for both, but I'm taking both on here.

Belardo won the Dewhurst, and many suggest he was a sub par winner. I feel that if you ran that race five times you would get five different winners so I'm passing over him also.

That leaves me with Dick Whittington. He came out early last season racing three times before being a beaten favourite at Royal Ascot. He atoned for that defeat with two wins on home soil and in my eyes is still unexposed, especially if the extra distance here eeks out some improvement. As Ballydoyles sole representative I see him at great each way value around 9/1 to score here.

Sorry its short and sweet, but I'm sitting at an all inclusive bar here and as a Scotsman that temptation is far more appealing than writing this. Adios!

Best Bets

13:45 Newbury – Romsdal to win (7/4 William Hill)

14:15 Newbury – Tiggy Wiggy to win (Evens BetVictor)

14:50 Newbury – Dick Whittington each way (9/1 Paddy Power)

About Author

I grew up watching Hearts games with my dad and playing football at every opportunity so betting on it was the logical next step! Football coupons became a Saturday ritual and it introduced me into the world of horse racing. I started watching it on a regular basis, and after Galileo's Derby win in 2001 I was hooked. I follow both flat and national hunt racing attending the northern meetings when possible.
