Horse Racing – Frankie’s fancy can shine at Newmarket

HORSE RACING boff Graeme Johnston (@GraemeJ_83) picks out his best bet from Saturday's card.

3:45 Newmarket | Sweet Solero Stakes | ITV

The Sweet Solera Stakes is the highlight of the card at Newmarket and a group of seven promising fillies line up. The form of the field pretty much all ties in with one another and I'm backing one who I feel could progress past these.

Main Edition (5/2 Ladbrokes) won her first three starts before bombing out in the Dutchess of Cambridge Stakes at this track last time. It may be she was an early maturing type and in a race full of progressive types she looks vunerable to me.

Ajar (4/1 BetBright) won her debut before coming second to Look Around at Sandown where she had Saturda's rival La Palosa behind her. She showed promise there and I think she may confirm that form, however I'm taking her on with one who is stepping up in grade.

Pennywhistle (9/2 Matchbook) won nicely last time out and strikes me as a juvenile who should continue to improve rather than being the finished article. Her debut effort behind Look Around reads well in this race now and this course and distance winner looks the one for me here.

Frankie Dettori is missing the Shergar Cup for this and though he is linked to the Gosden yard, I still think it's a clue he's missing Ascot for this and it's swaying me to back her.

Best Bets

3:45 Newmarket – Pennywhistle to win (9/2 Matchbook)

I grew up watching Hearts games with my dad and playing football at every opportunity so betting on it was the logical next step! Football coupons became a Saturday ritual and it introduced me into the world of horse racing. I started watching it on a regular basis, and after Galileo's Derby win in 2001 I was hooked. I follow both flat and national hunt racing attending the northern meetings when possible.
