Football League Longshot | 20th December 2014

Chris Quinn (chrisquinn3) returns with a festive edition of the Football League Longshot.

Bury v York City | Saturday 15:00

Oh I'm feeling delicate after last night's Christmas party! But I reckon David Flitcroft will be feeling even worse! His Bury side haven't won in seven games and have lost six of those ties. Defeats to the likes of Tranmere, Dagenham & Redbridge and Oxford hardly inspire confidence.

Bury have stacked up their capital in the attacking third of the pitch, and when that goes wrong it affects the whole side. That's certainly the case at the moment with no goal in eight for Ryan Lowe, just one in six for Daniel Nardiello and one in eight for summer signing Danny Rose. It's grim!

They've host York on Saturday and I think the visitors will thrive on away turf. They haven't won at home in all competitions this season but on the road they come alive. Russ Wilcox's side are unbeaten in four, and have won two of those fixtures. Perhaps the most impressive result of that quartet was the draw against Plymouth as John Sheridan's side have an outstanding home record.

I'm a fan of Russ Wilcox. He did great things at Scunthorpe and I think he'll send York up the table in the second half of the season. He obviously trusts his players as he's given them Christmas Day off. I'd like to think they'll repay him here.

I'm backing York here at 3/1 with Betfred. Free from the pressure of Bootham Crescent and with a debt to repay to their kindly manager, I think they'll get the job done. I'll also lay Bury on The Machine.

Best Bet

Bury v York – York to win (3/1 Betfred)
