Euro 2012 | Group A: Poland v Russia

Russia impressed many on Friday night with their dominating 4-1 win over the Czech Republic and it was no surprise to see their odds to win the tournament half after that win. Dick Advocaat’s side are now as short as 10/1 to claim the trophy but it’s fair to say they’ll face a stiffer test tonight against the co-hosts.

Poland had a frustrating opening day. They were a goal up, a man up and as short as 1/14 to beat Greece before an equaliser and their goalkeeper seeing red spoiled the opening day party for the Poles.

Defeat here for the hosts would be a killer blow for their hopes and they’re fancied to keep the dream alive by getting something here. During the first half on Friday they looked impressive with their trio of Dortmund players working well together and the much-celebrated Robert Lewandowski bagging their goal.

As exciting as Russia were, their opponents on Friday were poor and it might not all be plain sailing tonight. We expect Russia to stay unbeaten but we can also a strong show for the hosts so we’re backing the Draw at the juicy 12/5 with Stan James.

Key Facts

  • Russia are unbeaten in 15 games
  • Only one host nation has failed to win a group stage match at the Euros
  • After scoring on Friday Robert Lewandowski briefly became favourite for the Golden Boot.
