OUR corners man Russ Butterworth (@cornerkicktips) returns for Friday night's televised encounter from the Cardiff City Stadium.

Cardiff v Bristol City | Friday 19.45 | Sky Sports 1

A tasty looking encounter awaits the Sky Sports cameras on Friday night when Bristol City travel to Cardiff.

There is no love lost between these two clubs and with the appointment of Neil Warnock, cheap seats for home fans and a sold out away end should ensure a red-hot atmosphere.

Cardiff have poor corner totals at home, averaging just 9.25 corners and have only managed over eight corners once at home this season. However, when Bristol City play away, we’ve seen over 10 corners in all eight games with 5/8 matches featuring 15 or more.

Bristol City have scored twice or more in 4/5 away games and Warnock knows he will need to get Cardiff scoring to get anything out of this game. The veteran boss has already hinted at an attacking intent; “We’ve got to play on the front foot, we can’t allow Bristol City to play”.

He will be encouraged that the away team have conceded in 11/12 away games and will certainly want Cardiff to be a more potent threat going forward, which I’m hoping will lead to higher team corners.

The away team have led at the break in their last 2 away encounters and only 2/13 away fixtures under Lee Johnson have been goalless at half-time.

An early goal could really open this game up, but regardless, I expect both teams to go for it from the off and am predicting it will end closer to the Bristol City away average of 14.38 corners than the lower corner totals Cardiff are used to at home.

Head-to-head stats
