Cheltenham Festival – Arkle Chase: Dominance of Altior means looking elsewhere

GRAEME Johnston (@GraemeJ_83) focuses on the Arkle Chase where Altior bids to continue his dominance of the division.

Cheltenham 14:10 | Arkle Chase | ITV1

The top 2 mile novice chase of the season is upon us and it's another chance for us to see the incredible Altior in action. Last season's Supreme Novice Hurdle winner has looked even better for the switch to fences and he looks a cut above his rivals here.

He's won his four chase starts by exactly 100 lengths and it's hard to envisage anything other than him making it five from five on Tuesday afternoon. Nicky Henderson is brimming with confidence and with a clear round of jumping it's a case of how far for this seasons top novice chaser.

Without Altior

There are numerous markets available for this race and I've got involved in the betting without Altior. Some Plan is a Grade 1 winning chaser who is available at huge odds, however he was a fortuitous winner of that race.

Royal Caviar looked the likely winner before falling at the last and has to be respected however both have to find loads to challenge the favourite.

Charbal has already been well beaten by Altior however he put up the best effort against those who have chased him home. He was fifth in the Supreme Novice Hurdle last season and won a hot chase on his debut over fences. In what isn't the strongest of races outside of the favourite I make him a confident selection to be best of the rest.

I grew up watching Hearts games with my dad and playing football at every opportunity so betting on it was the logical next step! Football coupons became a Saturday ritual and it introduced me into the world of horse racing. I started watching it on a regular basis, and after Galileo's Derby win in 2001 I was hooked. I follow both flat and national hunt racing attending the northern meetings when possible.
