Bookings Tips | 20th April 2016

KING of the cards Gavin Murphy (@GamePlanGavin) has three fancies from Wednesday night to share from the continent.

Athletic Bilbao v Atletico Madrid | Wednesday 19.45 | Sky Sports Interactive

A full card of La Liga and Serie A games this midweek and I believe there is an opportunity in three key fixtures.

In Spain, the battle for the title has suddenly become very interesting with Barcelona imploding over recent weeks. Atletico Madrid get the first opportunity to apply pressure as they travel to San Marmes to take on Athletic Bilbao.

To be honest, referee Juan Martinez Munuera is quite lenient by Spanish standards, averaging 4.77 cards-per-game. However, with so much at stake now I expect his cards tally to rise in this one, in what is sure to be a hostile environment.

Atletico are going for the title and hosts Athletic a Europa League place so there's plenty on this game.

Over 55 Bookings Points with William Hill at 8/11 looks terrific value and I'm getting stuck in.

If you’re new to Bookings Points, a yellow card earns 10 points and a red card earns 25 points. If a player receives 2 yellow cards and is consequently shown a red card, he receives a total of 35 booking points.

Real Madrid v Villarreal | Wednesday 21.00 | Sky Sports 3

Later on, attention turns to the Santiago Bernabeu as Real Madrid host Villarreal. This brings together the third and fourth-placed teams.

Unlike the Atletico Madrid v Athletic Bilbao match, this fixture has a favourable referee in Clos Gomez.

Gomez averages 6.58 cards-per-game this season. Gomez also has high career stats when officiating both clubs. He typically gives Real 3.60 cards-per-game and 3.61 cards-per-game to Villarreal – that implies 7.20 cards might be expected.

That bodes well and I'm backing Over 55 Bookings Points again with William Hill at 11/10.

Palermo v Atalanta | Wednesday 19.45

My third tip comes from Sicily as stricken Palermo host Atalanta.

The hosts are a mess, changing management virtually every week and languish in 19th position. However, the bottom section of Serie A is congested so hope remains. Games such as this though are key.

Daniele Doveri gets the whistle for this one and he averages 5.73 cards-per-game. And he typically gives 2.50 first-half cards-per-match.

Interestingly, this has also won in 4/5 recent head-to heads so I'm backing 2-3 first-half cards again with William Hill at 11/10.

Best Bets

Athletic Bilbao v Atletico Madrid – Over 55 Bookings Points (8/11 William Hill)

Real Madrid v Villarreal – Over 55 Bookings Points (11/10 William Hill)

Palermo v Atalanta – 2-3 first-half cards (11/10 William Hill)

About Author

I first got interested in gambling through my cousin. He's a professional gambler and got me hooked as a teenager when you had to pay the 9% tax. Who remembers that?! These days I prefer to specialise on one market rather than spread myself too thinly. Hence my love of cards! Hopefully I can make others a few bob in the process of sharing my bets on WeLoveBetting. On a personal note I love most sports especially cricket, rugby and NFL. I support Tottenham and all things Welsh and outside of sport I enjoy reading autobiographies particularly with a glass of good wine!
