ARSENAL take on Tottenham in Super Sunday's Premier League showdown. Tom Love (@TomLove_18) shares his betting thoughts.

Both these sides enjoyed wins in the Europa League on Thursday night but many will argue Spurs will have an advantage having played on home soil whilst Arsenal were out in Greece. It’ll be interesting to see if Mikel Arteta makes sweeping changes to his side, who managed a similar scenario well a few weeks ago winning deservedly at Leicester.

There’s hardly anything to split the sides on the performance data with Arsenal just edging things on expected goals ratio, but as Arsenal have improved slightly as the season has gone on, Spurs have regressed on the metrics.

Spurs do come into this one on the back of three consecutive wins but all were against bottom half fodder, Jose Mourinho always aims first and foremost not to lose these fixtures.

With little to separate the two and neither wanting to give derby bragging rights to each other, the draw at 12/5 (William Hill) does appeal here, especially with it being the biggest price of the three. It’s hard to be confident in backing Spurs on the road with just 2 wins in their last 9 on the road.

Arsenal have drawn 3 of their last 7 home games and also shared the spoils with Burnley last time out. It just seems a result that either party won’t be distraught with.

I’m also happy to chance a couple of bigger prices here because we have a certain Mr Michael Oliver in charge and let me tell you, he loves to give a penalty.

Oliver has awarded 15 penalties in his 21 league games this season, an average of 0.71 pens per game, comfortably the highest in the league. He always seems to be given the big games too, he’s actually given multiple penalties in Manchester City vs Liverpool, Chelsea vs Arsenal, Manchester City vs Leicester games this season as well as a few others showing he doesn’t mind making things even from the spot.

Bet Victor have boosted Arsenal to score a penalty to 6/1 and Harry Kane to score a penalty at 17/2 both of which I’m happy to play as singles. I’ll also have a stab on both sides to score a penalty at a bulbous 41/1, it should be more like half the price with Oliver in charge.

Best Bets

Arsenal vs Tottenham – Draw (12/5 William Hill)

Arsenal vs Tottenham – Arsenal to score a penalty (6/1 Bet Victor)

Arsenal vs Tottenham – Harry Kane to score a penalty (17/2 Bet Victor)

Arsenal vs Tottenham – Both teams to score a penalty (41/1 (BetVictor)

About Author

I was first interested in the betting industry by doing the odd coupon at 18 - when I’d see a team at odds I didn’t expect it sparked my curiosity as to why that was. I’d go and research everything around that club: form, team news, manager quotes, and try give my own price in an aim to out-do the bookies. I personally enjoy punting on the Football League and European competitions. I like to diversify what markets I bet on so sometimes it’s outrights, goals, player cards etc. The Football League angle comes from being an avid Bradford City fan which has its ups (reaching a League Cup final and beating Chelsea in the FA Cup) and its downs (The entirety of 2018). Hobbies of mine include playing football, cross country running, travelling and playing Football Manager.
