Arsenal v PSG: Gunners look too big to ignore

A big night at the Emirates and Chris Graham (@chrisgraham79) offers his view as PSG come to North London.

Arsenal and PSG clash in a Group A decider on Wednesday night and I'm struggling to get my head around Arsenal's price here. 7/4 at home feels too big. Am I missing something?

Shoot out

As far as I can see this is a shoot out for top spot in this group. Win the game and either side finish 1st. A 0-0 draw sees Arsenal win the head to head while a 2-2 draw or higher will see PSG go above the English side.

I've seen some theories kicking about that finishing second in your Champions League group this season may not be too bad but surely both these sides will be aspiring to finish top.

Arsenal of course have been hit hard by second place finishes in recent seasons as they've been drawn against Barcelona and Bayern Munich in three of the last four seasons at the Last 16 stage.

As we know, the Gunners have lost just once since March and that was with a depleted team in the opening weekend of the season against Liverpool.

Ruthless

They went to Paris in September and managed to forge a draw against PSG and overall have been ruthless in this group with wins to nil at home against Basle and Ludogorets.

At the Emirates last season Arsenal managed to beat Bayern Munich 2-0 in the group stages and beat fellow German side Borussia Dortmund in London the previous season.

PSG regressed

Should they fear PSG? There's certainly reason to believe that they're not quite as strong as last season. While they were cruising in the French league this time last season, this time round they find themselves in third place three points behind leaders Nice.

So while there's reason to believe that Arsenal have improved year on year there's a suspicion that PSG have dropped off the pace a little (unbeaten at this point last season v two defeats so far this league campaign) and with that in mind 7/4 looks big for Arsenal.

Because Arsenal's price looks so sexy I'll dabble in conservatism and back them Draw No Bet at a very shade of odds on at 47/50. The Gunners have shown in recent years they can raise their game at home against Europe's elite and I'll put my faith in them here.
