Aberdeen vs Rangers Betting Preview: Gerrard’s Gers to pick up Pittodrie success

THE new Scottish Premiership starts with a mouthwatering match-up between Aberdeen and Rangers on Saturday afternoon. Daniel McCulloch (@DMcCulloch1984) shares his favourite fancies.

Just a week after the English top-flight season finished, the Scottish one begins, with Rangers travelling up to Aberdeen for the second time in Steven Gerrard’s three seasons at Ibrox.

I tend to agree with Chris Sutton’s view that the idea that Gerrard has been a success in Glasgow is an absolute myth, with the Englishman yet to win a trophy and surely slightly embarrassed by the way in which he celebrated a win at Celtic Park, given how his side imploded after that victory.

Rangers won just five of their next 10 league fixtures as they found themselves 13 points behind Celtic (although they did have a game in-hand) before the season was ended prematurely.

Celtic have now won nine SPL titles in a row and Rangers will be determined not to let that become 10 and they would have chosen a simpler start than a trip to Pittodrie.

Rangers did win their first encounter with Aberdeen last season by five goals to nil but they did draw the next two. However, they really should have won both of those matches and I do think that they will have too much for Aberdeen here.

The angle I like is a single goal victory for the Ibrox side. Nine of their 21 victories last season came in this manner and they generally struggled to break teams down in the latter part of last term. I did also consider draw HT/Rangers FT but I will keep it to the sole bet, which is Rangers to win by a single goal at 5/2 with Boylesports.

Best Bets

Aberdeen vs Rangers – Rangers to win by a single goal (5/2 Boylesports)

I bet on football, golf and the NFL mainly but two flies going up a wall could also capture my attention. I am a West Brom fan and also follow teams in other sports but I think it's fair to say that no side compare with The Baggies!
