JUST the one bet for Mark O’Haire (@MarkOHaire) from Wednesday night’s Football League card. He’s dipping his toe into the sole League Two fixture involving table-topping Burton.

Burton Albion v Carlisle United | Wednesday 19.45

Should Southend fail to see off Newport on home soil on Tuesday night, Burton can clinch promotion by beating beleaguered Carlisle at the Pirelli on Wednesday evening. The Brewers have never played third tier football and boss Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink is determined not to let the opportunity slip through his hands.

Albion have been almost flawless since the Dutch hitman took charge; W16-D7-L3 and deservedly sit top of the League Two pile. Their record at the Pirelli is similarly staunch having W15-D3-L3. The hosts were available to back at 7/10 on Monday afternoon but that price has all but gone leaving us seeking an alternative runner for Wednesday night.

I’ve plumped for Sportingbet’s rather generous 5/6 on Burton to score Over 1.5 Goals. It’s a feat they’ve only achieved in 9/21 (43%) of games at the Pirelli but I’m adamant Wednesday night should see them collect three points against a Carlisle side struggling to keep their heads afloat under the comical Keith Curle.

The Cumbrians boss ripped his team after a woeful display when going down 3-1 at Accrington in their last away day; questioning the players’ professionalism and quality. The United boss managed to get a tune out of his team on Saturday as they saw off Dagenham on home soil but their away form leaves a lot to be desired.

Carlisle have lost 14/21 (67%) of their road trips since relegation with 11/21 (52%) seeing the Cumbrians leak at least twice. When taking on the top-10 on their travels, Curle’s charges have returned zero points and conceded two goals or more in five of those eight encounters.

Burton have beaten the bottom-five in all nine of their clashes against the struggling sides, scoring twice or more on seven occasions and should prove far too good for their lowly visitors on Wednesday night.

Should the Brewers win, like their expected, then two goals or more looks well within their capabilities against the league’s worst defence (averaging 1.64 goals-per-game against).

  1. Got to find a way to get on Burton but I worry that almost 30% of their home wins have been 1-0

You can Dutch Burton to win by 1 or 2 goals for shade under evens and this bet would have won in 60% of Burton’s homes and 57% of carlisles aways. The away team have also lost by this margin in all 8 games they have played away to top 10 sides

Looks a good angle, Russ. Basically, I’m expecting a Burton win but have absolutely zero faith in Carlisle restricting them to just one goal.

With Shrewsbury’s result last night, a win would give them a great foundation to go on and claim the title so you’d assume they’ll be on the ball this evening.

Fingers crossed a 2-0 win then and we’re both happy 🙂
