Martin Atkinson is again the man in the middle for West Ham’s meeting with Hull on Sunday. The experienced referee had the whistle when the two teams clashed earlier this season in a 2-2 draw, handing out four yellow cards.

Atkinson has taken charge of 10 live matches in the Premier League this season and already dished out 50 yellows and two red cards. That’s an average of 5.2 cards-per-game! In non-televised league fixtures, that figure drops to just three cards-per-game.

Looking at the Hammers, Sam Allardyce’s men are picking up two cards-per-game on average in front of the TV cameras. Whilst Steve Bruce’s visitors have totted up three per-game, on average. Going on those mean figures, we should expect to see four or more cards for Sunday’s showdown.

Jake Livermore’s the first player I like, to get his name taken. He’s 9/4 (Betfred) and has already been booked in his last two live Premier League games, against West Ham and Tottenham.

He’ll relish the physical midfield battle against the likes of Mark Noble, Alex Song and will also have to keep a close eye on Stuart Downing, who dictates play and runs the show in the heart of the Hammers midfield.

Livermore has already totted up six yellow cards this campaign with four of those arriving in his last 10 outings. Plus, Atkinson has already taken his name this season. He’s also been carded in his last two games against West Ham, so here’s hoping he makes it a hat-trick!

I’m also going to have an interest in James Tomkins at 7/2 (Sky Bet) in the same market. The local West Ham boy has collected five yellows already this season in just 15 outings.

Tomkins struggles against pace and has been booked for bringing down Alexis Sanchez, Yannick Bolasie and Kevin Mirallas and can also find the going tough against more physical opponents.

Yellows have been collected against Bobby Zamora and Victor Anichene too. On Sunday he’s likely to be face by Yannick Sagno plus the pacey runs of Tom Ince and Robbie Brady, which doesn’t bode well.

He likes to go through the back of players, is far from gifted on the ball and tends to lose possession easily. Just watch him pull players down by shirt after making an error!

History is also on our side. Tomkins was booked against Hull when the teams met in the Championship and has also been carded in the past by referee Atkinson. Let’s hope history repeats itself for Super Sunday’s meeting.
