Saturday’s evening clash is contested by the blue side of both Merseyside and Manchester with Frank Lampard’s Everton hosting Manchester City at Goodison Park.
Since Frank’s appointment the Toffees breezed past Brentford in the FA Cup but have accumulated just 3 points from as many Premier League games. An emphatic 3-0 win over a struggling Leeds side at home amongst two away defeats against Newcastle and Southampton shows that the club has plenty to work on.
The Citizens make the short trip after the back of a dramatic defeat to Spurs where they ended Pep’s side 15 game unbeaten Premier League run.
Taking a look into expected goals and it’s no surprise that the Manchester club dominate the chances on the road. City average an XG of 2.38 away from the Ethiad which has seen them score 2.08 per 90 whereas against, the numbers are significantly lower. 0.69 XGA is very accurate as they’ve conceded just 0.62 goals per 90, keeping a clean sheet in 46% of matches.
Everton’s numbers align very well just like there opponents today. They marginally beat the XG for goals score by just 0.10 on average but concede slightly more than figures suggest by 0.13. When playing at home the Toffees have both scored and conceded in 73% of matches.
Recent clashes between these sides have only had one winner, the last 9 have seen City win in all competitions. DCL and Richarlison have found themselves on the scoresheet in this fixture over the two previous seasons and with the pair both fit and playing alongside each-other they’d be wanting to cause plenty of problems.
It’ll be an extremely tough test for the home side as we all expect this evening and with the visitors priced up @ 3/10 for all 3 points, it’s way to short as a single selection therefore I’ve dug a little further in.
With DCL and Richarlison expected to be given the nod from Lampard to start you’d have to fancy them to nick a goal. Betfair are offering an odds against price of 11/10 for both sides to score here which is certainly something that stands out.
Manchester City to win and BTTS has banked in this exact fixture in both of the previous two seasons and is available at 2/1 to happen for a third successive time.
