BEN RAGG (@punters_corner_) continues a brand new column, picking out his three favourite cards-based angles on Saturday.
Following on from last week’s 7/1 treble winner, I am hoping for more of the same and have decided to stick to English football, but this time starting in League One with one selection form each of England’s top three leagues.
Sunderland vs Wimbledon | Saturday 21st August 2021, 15:00
The first bet I like is 20+ Booking Points Each Team in Sunderland versus Wimbledon priced at 2/1 with Skybet. The referee for this one is James Oldham who has certainly not been card-shy this season, handing out 16 cards in his first two league games – 20+ and 30+ Booking Points Each Team has landed in both his games.
Sunderland have received 11 and drawn 11 cards in four games with each match having a minimum of four cards. Wimbledon have received 12 cards in four fixtures, whilst drawing 10. Given the card stats of these teams, plus the ref in charge, 2/1 looks great value.
Luton vs Birmingham | Saturday 21st August 2021, 15:00
The second bet I like is the same wager but this time over in the Championship as Luton host Birmingham. John Busby has the whistle – another ref who has had a card-happy start to this campaign, dishing out 14 in his first two league games.
Luton have been in-amongst the cards, receiving seven and drawing eight in just three matches, whilst Birmingham have received eight and drawn five thus far – 15/8 with SkyBet for 20+ Booking Points Each Team looks another juicy price.
Leeds vs Everton | Saturday 21st August 2021, 15:00
The final bet this weekend is in the Premier League for the first game back at full capacity at Ellan Road for Leeds against Everton. Like I said last week, with supporters back in stadiums, it does play on referee’s mind as they have the majority of a ground appealing for each foul and encouraging the official to get their cards out.
With Everton being the away team, I can the Toffees winning the card count. They won 2-0 on the card count in their first game of the season at home to Southampton and I can see more of the same from them here. So, I have backed Everton Most Booking Points at 5/4 with SkyBet.
