The big one at Anfield is sure to get plenty of viewers as Jurgen Klopp tries to rile his troops up for what is a huge game for Liverpool to show that they’re still in the title race. The Reds currently find themselves 7 points behind and Man City have a game in-hand on the current champions; how both sides approach this one will be truly fascinating.

Liverpool are going off at the biggest price they’ve ever been against City, and even with the injuries they have it looks too big given their superb home record under Klopp. They also haven’t lost to City since 2013 on home soil.

With a draw probably being a nice result for the visitors, I’m more than happy to take the 5/6 (Genting) on Liverpool with a +0.5 start on the Asian Handicap here. It’s effectively Liverpool to avoid defeat and although they’ve struggled against the poorer teams in the league they still turn it on vs the big boys.

Man City may be in decent form at the moment but they’ve had a very easy run of fixtures over the winter, it’s meat and drink for Pep in those games but he can make some confusing decisions in the key games which are more often than not to his detriment.

City failed to beat Manchester United, Leicester, West Ham, Leeds and Spurs this season and if they can keep Liverpool at arms length with the shares spoiled they’ll take it. To be able to get two results on side at a backable price makes plenty of appeal.

The props market also look attractive here. I’m always willing to take anything close to evens on Trent Alexander-Arnold to attempt a shot from outside the box and you can get 17/20 for that with Coral and Ladbrokes on their BetBuilders.

Trent has attempted an average of 1.4 shots per game this season with 1.1 of those being from outside the area. He’s had a shot in 15/19 starts this season and had two attempts in the reverse fixture with this bet landing. It helps that he’s on free kicks immeasurably and you’ll surely get a run for your money. I’d make it more 1/2.

I’m also backing the same bet for midfielder Thiago who is available at 23/30 with Pokerstars. The Spaniard has had a shot in 7/9 starts with 1.1 of his 1.2 shot average coming from outside the box. Liverpool are the ones that have to take the game to City and it should play into their hands from a shot perspective.

Best Bets

Liverpool vs Manchester City – Liverpool +0.5 Asian Handicap (5/6 Genting)

Liverpool vs Manchester City – Thiago to have 1+ shot outside the box (23/20 Pokerstars)

Liverpool vs Manchester City – Trent Alexander-Arnold to have 1+ shot outside the box (17/20 Coral)

I was first interested in the betting industry by doing the odd coupon at 18 - when I’d see a team at odds I didn’t expect it sparked my curiosity as to why that was. I’d go and research everything around that club: form, team news, manager quotes, and try give my own price in an aim to out-do the bookies. I personally enjoy punting on the Football League and European competitions. I like to diversify what markets I bet on so sometimes it’s outrights, goals, player cards etc. The Football League angle comes from being an avid Bradford City fan which has its ups (reaching a League Cup final and beating Chelsea in the FA Cup) and its downs (The entirety of 2018). Hobbies of mine include playing football, cross country running, travelling and playing Football Manager.
